Re: [TWC] OMG I Feel so violated!

What happened: My line was killed and I was contacted by Time Warner RoadRunner that I was stealing from the RIAA (or some other IP holder). I was forced into a VERIFICATION ACKNOWLEDGMENT web site (where I was to assume guilt and make a promise to take action) in return for the restoration of my service. This is way outta hand for an ISP, and it is going to kill them soon if they don't change their ways.
Hint: Don't download not upload materials you don't have distribution rights of.

It could be me, but I thought that with all the media attention, it isn't THAT hard to understand that you can't upload copyrighted material, which is what P2P does.

»RIAA Replaces Mass Lawsuits With Potentially Dumber Ideas

Specifically read this:

"Depending on the agreement, the ISP will either forward the note to customers, or alert customers that they appear to be uploading music illegally, and ask them to stop. If the customers continue the file-sharing, they will get one or two more emails, perhaps accompanied by slower service from the provider. Finally, the ISP may cut off their access altogether. The RIAA said it has agreements in principle with some ISPs, but declined to say which ones."

Apparantly, TWC is one of those ISPs..... and you just got busted uploading copyrighted materials.

You got busted. Deal with it and stop using P2P.

I was not "busted". What is wrong with you people? I know all this; and it's not the point. Your message does nothing to further this conversation, except for the link (awesome, BTW)... it's only rude.

So if you know all that.... you know why your P2P is slower, and you know what to do.

Did you have specific questions, or did you dump RoadRunner already?

There are plenty of specific questions I have put forth here... you could start with the very first one: how to keep an eye on what RR is doing to my line? There are some other questions that follow, some real close to the first one (I just quickly counted seven question marks in the first message alone)... did you even read the message? But first, what is with the hostility?

I am not really hostile. Although I do admit you do sound pretty dumb if you have to come complain on an online forum about something you yourself are the sole cause of.

But I am not, your making an assumption again... one that is off-topic, again. If anything that makes you sound "pretty dumb", not me. We could talk along these lines if you wish. The thing is, even the assumption that the main purpose of my message was to complain, is not the case either.

Then what about the situation is not clear enough to you that you need to open a topic about it?

Are you kidding? I have yet to talk about anything related to my original message and topic at all. Did you read it?

Trust me, I did my due diligence here. A new topic in this forum is justified.

Perhaps it is time you start to put down more clearly what it is you are trying to accomplish with this topic, because so far, you are failing miserably in doing so.

You might just reread my first message. If not for this legality stuff we have all discussed in depth, nothing I mentioned in that message has been addressed. Seriously, I don't know how I could be more clear. Perhaps I should specifically request that we talk about nothing that anyone has said so far, and talk about everything else instead? All that has been discussed is legal/ethical/etc. If you guys really want to talk about that then fine, okay, whatever.

What is your fact and why let me know it? That my line belongs to RR and I in fact "rent" the use of it? Or what? We could argue sablantics all you want.

In any case whatever your talking about most likely is not related to anything on topic, just like all this other nonsense I have gotten out of this Forum.

And you're making the assumption that we feel like helping you without knowing any of the details of your situation. If you want us to answer your questions the least you could do is answer ours.
