 | Share Home Printer over VPN I've got the VPN server on XP all setup and File and Printer Sharing is turned on. The print is also being shared. When I connect from a remote client into my VPN via the WAN IP it connects successfully. Any files and folders being shared can be access by going to run and typing \\IP_AddresHere or \\IP_AddressHere\Share_NameHere However I've run into a problem. When I go into Printers and Faxes...the print install on the machine doesn't show up at all. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me what I did wrong? I was thinking that when the printer shows up in there on the remote host that the user could double click the printer and it would download the drivers from the VPN server the printer is installed on which would allow printer from the remote host to the VPN server printer. How does this work? |

 | So when you do \\IpAddrsss you see the shared folders? Do you see shared printers?
Did you share a printer yet? You need to share it before you can use it across the vpn.
\\IpAddress should list printers and faxes. |

 | Yeah, when I do that, nothing shows up in the list. Is something wrong? |
|
 | OK, I think I figured it out. The problem was that I was trying to access a printer that's on a different network with a different subnet then the one the VPN server was being hosted on. So anything that's not on my routers LAN can't be accessed through the VPN. A VPN server on the other network segment would be needed is what it seems. I don't actually need this, I'm just trying to learn more about VPNs that's all. When connecting to the VPN server on the network that has the computer with the printer on it, it works. |
