| reply to BKuhl Re: [iPhone] + iPod Tuch = Free at&t Wi-Fi on both devices?
said by BKuhl :I was trying to determine if I could use the free Wi-Fi on my laptop (not much different then your Touch) and after some research came to the conclusion, no. Apparently when you connect to the hotspot you are presented with a page where you enter your phone number. Then they text you with a link that allows you to connect to that hotspot. Since the link is only sent to your phone, I dont think you could use it on your Touch. If you give it a try and have success, let us know. I am curious as well.... oh, right! I forgot about the text message step. I see no way in which an iPod touch could gain access to the at&t hotspot, unless they copied the probably only-valid-for-a-short-period-of-time link into the iPod Touch's Safari Browser. Seems like it could be done.. with effort.
(I think I'm going to take the lazy route, and just use my iPhone to get access. There is a Wi-Fi connection utility available on the app store that makes it a two step process, though (turn on wifi, click connect button in application). The app enters the phone # in the at&t hotspot, receives the text message, and connects with the link, automatically. It's free, for now I think.
Thanks! Unfortunately, laziness has gotten the best of me.
