[iPhone] App fails to sync from the iPhone

I bought a rather large app from the iPhone App Store, 66MB a few days ago. Today I'm trying to sync my iPhone with iTunes, and it keeps hanging on this very app, at various stages of copying. I have restarted the iPhone, the computer & iTunes, and this app just wont copy over.

What should I do? If I delete it from the iPhone, would I be able to download it into my iTunes without paying for it again, then re-sync it to the iPhone?

I've never had any trouble with transferring either free or paid apps downloaded from the iPhone to iTunes.

Yes.

I would delete and reinstall.

Well, I try deleting from the iPhone, I try to sync, and it still tries to copy the app and hangs. I restart the iPhone, and the damn app is there again. How the hell can i delete it and make sure it stays deleted?

Delete it from the iTunes app on your Mac and resync.

It never made it to iTunes... Anyway, I finally got the iPhone to delete it, resynced and iTunes synced properly. Now I am trying to get it again, and it says my credit card will be charged, yadayada... Is that what should happen, and will it know that I bought it already and not charge me twice?

You shouldn't be charged again. That is a standard message, but if you proceed, it will tell you that you've already purchased it and you can download it again - for free.

Right, thats what happened. I just wanted to make sure. Thanks. I am downloading it now, hope it syncs up ok to the iPhone. Glad I didn't use it much so i am not losing any data.

Hopefully the app will work correctly this time.

It appears it worked properly this time around...

However, i am a bit puzzled with the space this app takes... It's a 66MB download, and iTunes says its 66MB. However, in the breakdown of space used, iTunes said 208MB used in Apps before, and 488MB used after installing this app.

Does iTunes report the IPA package size locally on the computer, or how much it actually takes up on the iPhone once installed/extracted/whatever?

Hmm, it should trash the previous version you had installed (be sure to check your trash can).

If that is the only app you changed recently, then I'm perplexed by that jump in space consumption.

Edit: maybe a restart of iTunes may clear any cache (?) that could have ocurred from this issue.

The previous version never made it into iTunes. It kept refusing to transfer from the iPhone alltogether. I looked in the installed app folder, there's just one copy there. Nothing in the trash.

I think this app just takes up that much space installed. I find it a bit ridiculous since its not a real complex app. I'll see if i can contact the author and ask.

I just deleted it, synced up, my space dropped down to 208MB. I reinstalled the app once again, and boom 488MB used. I went thru the reviews and nobody seems to be mentioning the space usage, so i dont know if its isolated problem with my phone.

Strange. You may want to contact the developer and let them know what is going on here.

I've deleted and reinstalled apps before, but I've never seen anything like this - especially when the space it takes up causes the overall total to more than double in size.
