| ISP's should leave our connections alone!
Let's face it, bandwidth is bandwidth. I have 2Mbit/sec upload on one of my internet connections, and I often use it for backing up large multi-gigabyte files off site via FTP. When I do seed torrents from time to time, I'd expect those uploads to go at the same speed as my FTP transfer would, provided I've left my client to allow full use of my upload while seeding, which I usually do. When I do need to use my connection, it's no big deal for me to throttle the torrent at my end. Instead what we have are ISP's telling us that they'll provide decent upstream speeds, but oh we don't really want you to use your upload for anything other than HTTP requests! Now as a result of there crazy tactics, at least in my case, even my normal single connection standard client/server FTP transfers are getting stopped at random, be they uploads or downloads, and torrents that are seeding cause my upstream link to just drop for 90 seconds,while web traffic seems to work fine! Leave my internet connection alone, and let users utilize their upstream or downstream for that matter, however they wish. A few Megabits of outgoing traffic isn't going to overload an ISP's backbone, which at minimum should be connected at at least 1 gigabit? The internet was doing fine before ISP's started doing this throttling mess, so why are they screwing their users? What's in it for the ISP? Man if I had an ISP, I'd actually show capabilities of technology not try to hinder it's use. |
