Uverse Wireless Issues

Had Uverse installed on Monday, and now have issues connecting on my laptop wirelessly.
The wireless internet will work for a little while, but then kick me off the internet, and have to re-connect to the RG. Anyone have any advice? The laptop was bought last year, is a Compaq and running on Vista.

What are your wireless settings set to? Make sure your wireless software for the laptop is up to date.

Not sure how to check my wireless settings. All I know is I right click on the task bar, type in the network key and go. I have to go through this process at least twice a day in order to get back on the internet.

You need to verify what kind of settings your using. Your wireless card may not work on WPA which is what the RG is supposed to be set to by default.

so should I call uverse or compaq for support? The Internet works fine when directly plugged in the rg. I checked my work laptop and it is doing the same thing.

You could try uverse support first and if not then the laptop manufacture. My guess is you need to use a different type of encryption on the router. Instead of WPA probably WEP. Not all wireless cards can do WPA or WPA2.

ok, so switched everthing to WEP, and the internet seems to work, but is RIDICULOUSLY SLOW NOW! Any guesses on how to speed it up.

Is it slow only on wireless or lan connection as well?

ok, so called tech support again on Sunday, actually got the next level up on the support line. The guy changed my wireless channel again, and changed some settings to increase internet speed, but not the broadcast range. This apprears to have fixed the problem. Thanks.
