We do monitor the network for virus and worms. If a customer is found to be infected with a worm - they are contacted. As far as being Firewalled - not sure about that - don't know that much about the security policies. |

psx_defector, what is H-URL? I tried a couple of searches, but I did not find it. |

| It's an internal app to ATTIS.
The powers that be, if they see things they don't want happening, can H-URL you to compliance. When you login, the system will automatically isolate you, your traffic off your port, and only allow you to go to one web page. Then it tells you what to do to get un-H-URLed.
It's based on LDAP, like the port 25 block. In order to lift it, someone has to touch it and allow it to happen.
I find this kind of solution to be more effective than giving everyone AV software. What if you don't run the supported platforms? What are you going to do about those running wild Linux boxes, spewing forth with unprotected sendmail and hosting phishing websites? H-URL it! |

I hopefully will hear something later this evening about that. Wednesday night I was on the phone with a tech support guy, sounded eastern European, who didn't seem to be aware of the change until I told him I had downloaded the McAfee software from AT&T/Yahoo. He had given me a non-toll-free number to call McAfee for support, but then he told me to hang on and he would see what he could do.
While I was on hold, I figured out that Norton had not uninstalled completely (man, does that software dig in), re-ran the Norton Removal Tool, and then everything went smoothly. I probably wouldn't have bothered re-doing all that stuff if I hadn't been on hold doing nothing else, so it all worked out pretty well.
I think maybe AT&T should change the hold music so it periodically says "While you're on hold, try re-doing everything you have done so far ... " -- USNG: 16TDN2870 Find your Lat-Long: Geocoder |

| Yea unfortunately - there are few agents who don't read email or unable to attend meetings, or don't check the intranet site for new changes. This McAfee thing has been plastered everywhere for the past month.
But some agents slip through cracks and find out about the new stuff only when the customer calls in about it. |

| reply to StillLearn I tried that link in the OP. I got "AT&T Yahoo! Software does not support the Macintosh. If you wish to install the AT&T Yahoo! Software you will need to use a Windows computer." That's probably because I'm running linux on this box. But I do wonder how they identified linux as "Macintosh". I might check with a windows box in a day or three.
I tried a different route. From the AT&T/Yahoo page, I followed a few links: -> Member Center -> Explore your products & services -> Desktop Antivirus
That took me to a page where I saw (toward the bottom of the page) "Brought to you through our partnership with protection leader Computer Associates" So, I am wondering whether somebody has been failing to keep these pages up to date. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.3 |

| reply to StillLearn McAfee Vs. Norton - PC speed???
I have heard that Norton greatly "slows down" a PC. I don't know if this is true because when I got this current PC I immediately loaded the free version of Norton from ATT.
If the slow down is true, then does McAfee software also cause a slowdown? If so, does it allow the PC to run faster than if Norton were present or slower? |

| It might depend on how much memory you have.
In my experience, McAfee can cause slowdowns if you are low on memory. The slowdown is mostly due to the swapping.
I mainly noticed this on systems running McAfee enterprise with 256M or less of RAM. The slowdown is noticeable when McAfee is updating. It was also noticeable when SP3 was being downloaded (and scanned by McAfee while downloading).
I have not noticed a slowdown in systems with 1G or more of RAM. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.3 |

I removed ATT Norton and installed ATT McAfee.
Edit: I figured it out.
I don't know if I like it yet. I guess I have been use to using Norton for so many years. Oh well.

| I just did the switch myself. I was concerned about whether I should remove the old Norton package before installing the McAfee, and their website recommended that. But the McAfee installer recognized the AT&T Security Suite (including Norton) as "incompatible", and removed it before proceeding with the install. I have no idea how good a job it did uninstalling the Norton (notoriously insidious...), but the McAfee installed quickly and with no apparent problems. I'll test drive this a few days; we have Norton 2007 (non AT&T) installed on my wife's laptop, and the subscription runs out next Saturday. If I'm happy with McAfee, I'll load it up on that machine, otherwise, I think i will put Norton 2009 on both machines, based on good reviews i've seen |

| reply to StillLearn I was disappointed that there was no notification that AT&T Yahoo DSL was switching to McAfee. I bet they received lots of service requests for this.
We noticed it when we tried to open a ms Word document and it failed. I think it was trying to scan for viruses and the norton code was not responding. Norton eventually gave me an error, with corrective action to uninstall and re-install. Of course, when I went to reinstall, I got McAfee. If it works OK, I would have no complaints, but...
My questions: has anyone else had any problems with ms IE 7.0? The only way it can run is without add-ons. And Mozilla Firefox is equally messed up. Anyone with advise or a link on how to troubleshoot this? Thanks!! |

| I am an ATT customer. I recently got new hardware and thus had to wipe my hard drive. On my last system I used the links here to download McAfee. Now when I click them I get
"Sorry, the page you requested was not found.
Please check the URL for proper spelling and capitalization. If you're having trouble locating a destination on Yahoo!, try visiting the Yahoo! home page or look through a list of Yahoo!'s online services. Also, you may find what you're looking for if you try searching below."
Also, I just spent 4 hours on the phone between ATT and McAfee. Their ISS software will NOT support Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
Now I am stuck with running a bad AV program like Avast, buying McAfee Enterprise, or going back to normal 32bit XP and not being able to utilize all 4GB of ram that I have. |
