 | Error (SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections Started getting the following error this morning. I then went away for the day, thinking it would clear up while I was out. Returned 12 hours later and my outgoing mail is still sitting in the outbox. It appears that SBC is not accepted SSL connections today. Is this a permanent change that requires me to reconfigure non-SSL, or a temporary hiccup that will be fixed in a day or so?
Task 'Mark & Mary Ann Weiss [SBC] - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC7D) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections. If SSL-secured connections have worked in the past, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' |
|
 | It gets stranger: I was able to send an Outlook 2003 test message and that completed successfully. However, mail that I tried to send Saturday morning is still stuck in the outbox and producing this error.
What's the difference between how Outlook 2003 sends it's 'test message' and how it sends regular e-mail? The e-mails were replies to other messages, and the replies are sent from the affected account. Are they corrupted somehow? |

| MS Outlook 2003 has a Security tab (I don't have a copy, so I don't know how to get there; in MSOE I would go to Tools | Options | Security, and click on the "Digital ID" button").
What I've heard others have found is a corrupt Digital ID in the "Personal" tab. Mine, for MS Outlook Express, and Windows Live Mail (different path) have no Digital ID certificates at all in the Personal field. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
|
 | You mean "get digital ID"? That's the only button that mentions digital ID. But that costs money and I don't see why I should have to buy a digital ID to continue sending e-mail on SBC. There must be a problem with their servers this weekend. Is anyone else having trouble sending mail since Saturday morning? |

 | I successfully sent another "test" e-mail from the affected account a few minutes ago, however, when I tried to send a real e-mail that I composed, it is stuck in the outbox with that 'server does not support SSL' error again.
Why do the Outlook test messages "pass" while real e-mail does not get sent out? That does not make any sense, if the Outlook test settings function is really testing the connection. |

There must be a problem with their servers this weekend. Is anyone else having trouble sending mail since Saturday morning? No. Did you actually have a Digital ID in the list for the Personal column? If so, it might be corrupt; delete it. If not, then you'll have to keep searching for a solution. This was just one reported solution.
Another is to uninstall Windows Live Onecare. That has also been reported as causing issues. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

 | No digital signature here. And no OneCare either.
This just stopped working Sat morning. I was hoping it was a temporary outage like we've had in the past where mail wouldn't go for 30 minutes or so and then everything's back to normal within the hour. But this has exceeded 30 hours now and I'm getting worried I won't be able to communicate with clients via e-mail Monday morning. |
|
 | Well, shiver me timbers.. they must have fixed their servers tonight.. the mail FINALLY went through, plus new mail I composed and sent went through. |

 | reply to disconnected You might have been encountering intermittent sending problems. Sending a "test mail" and "regular email" wouldn't make a difference as far as your outlook is concern. As far as the error your getting regarding SSL it seems that your Outlook 2003 doesn't have enough capability to support the SSL settings of att servers. Minimum requirement for Outlook 2003 client for SSL is at least SP3 (Service Pack 3). Check your Outlook version and check if you have the SP3 if not upgrade it..You can check the version of it by going to TOOLS>ABOUT MICROSOFT OUTLOOK and check if it says OUTLOOK 2003 SP3. |

| reply to disconnected I seriously doubt that there were problems with the servers. Too many clients that I use send without problems. Other users, with Windows Live Mail, and MS Outlook 2003 are reporting that Digital ID issues, or windows Live Onecare were impediments to their sending. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
