Anyone go with a pellet stove??

I am again looking at supplemental heat. I am wondering if a pellet stove is a good solution.

I have a converted porch that is now a room, it has a concrete slab underneath, three outside walls. It gets cold in there in the winter without supplemental heat.

Anyone have a pellet stove? Are you happy with it, was it overkill?

I'm told that pellet stoves are sold out (everywhere) until well after the first of the year.

My ex inlaws have one and they love it. It is in their kitchen. I however find that room to be very hot but they are cold when I am not so I suppose its up to the individual. I can tell you that you will get a lot of heat, and I am sure there must be a way to regulate the amount of heat, maybe by the number of pellets? I dont know much about them other then that. Hope that helps.

I use a englander rated for 1500sq as my main heat source, this stove has saved me lots of money over its 2 years of use. The englanders have a control panel with 9 settings for heat output, highest I have run mine is on the 5 setting. Lowe's has stoves in stock, the high end stoves are the ones that are tough to get.

I installed my self, cut a hole in the side of the house and hooked it up. Some dealers will do installs.
I pickup pellets at Lowe's this year they went up $80 a ton.
I burn about 2.5 tons to heat a 1200sq house

I got it from a dealer, it's going to be installed when I get back from vacation. I was able to get pellets from a place in Suffield, 270/ton. I got two tons, although I might have to get more come February. I don't know if I can heat the whole house with it. ?Time will tell I guess.

Thanks for the help.

We just bought a new stove. It was $2695 + tax. Bought it from Green Mountain Stove Company in New Hartford. The day that we bought it, we were in luck as they had 1 of that model left and we took it with us. I am at home today waiting for the installers. However, I placed an order for pellets at the Suffield place and they are now telling me that the soonest that I can EVEN pick them up is the end of October and delivery wouldn't be too long after that. Just make sure that you ASK ALL questions ahead of buying one and requesting installation. How much for delivery? How much for the install kit? How long to get pellets? Can I pick them up? ETC ETC ETC - Good luck! I am ticked with the whole process already!!!

Try Agway if there's one near you. I was buying Hammer Hot Ones there for a while. They burn nice and hot, low ash. Don't remember what I was paying per ton (no longer have the stove), but they delivered. Also try www.ctpellet.com if you haven't already, not sure how far they go.

My parents bought a few stoves from Green Mountain, good place.

I have a few people I know who also bought Pellet stoves and are having a hard time getting them as well. And the people who already have them cant get pellets right away too.

I am thinking of buying pellets stock ha

I just can't believe how hard it is to get them

@firstam.com
Yea, it is just totally ridiculous. I am confident that the oil idiots are buying all of them...HAHAHAHA - no savings for the consumer if they buy them all.

Then again, moving back to Dallas would be attractive if selling the house were easier.

No need to worry about pellets, but the AC is still running here.

Gas dropped from 3.35 on Tues to 3.21 on Thurs, same station.

White thing = Thermostat, the black panel sticking out is controls
Installed, I found pellets to tide me over at WalMart in Manchester. I picked up 400# @ 287.50/ton. I haven't fired it up yet, I got to wait for the silicon to dry on some connections.

This is billed as a multi-fuel stove. With adjustment, you can burn corn and wheat in it. It's the St. Croix Lancaster.

Looks good, you will be happy with the heat output. I was able to get Lowe's own brand of pellets for $290 a ton.
They had them out back and would only sell as a whole ton.
This was at Lowes in Waterford,ct

I just fired it up. I will see if it can heat the house this weekend.

Any issues with lack of moisture in the air? Should I put a water container on top to get moisture blown around?
