The problem was, i was at the normal singnet homepage (blue links on the left) and it wasnt connecting, SO i called my isp and asked them my PPP user and pass and then i just clicked "internet connect/disconnect) and punched in the user and pass and click go, AND IT WORKED

I just wanted to know about the bridge mode because I thought that people were using bridge because the modem could not be put in router mode :P

I will most likely try to flash the firmware very soon, but I am trying to seek an alternative option before I do. I am currently exchanging emails with 2wire's tech support to know if it could be possible to enter a different keycode by going into debug mode (the JTAG pin 1&2 thing that some of you are most likely aware of). I don't know if this would allow one to change the keycode? And if yes, then could we possibly use the modem as-is without any reflashing?

Because I read the page and they said for extra features you can use different keycode, such as content filtering, and parental controls and many others.

AFAIK, 2wire's don't natively support MLPPP. Okay 2 things:
1) AT&T modems are unlocked and no need to reflash them.
2) Model 2701HG-G is Bell not AT&T. AT&T should be 2701HG-B

So far, I have it in Bridge Mode for about 2 days now with no problems with websurfing or downloading.

I haven't specifically checked the 2wire logs though for any messages.

If your "old Alcatel" was a alcatel 1000 or speedtouch home/pro the 2wire just does a better job of maintaining adsl sync.
One thing the 2wire does that the alcatel didn't is recognize that it can sync to a higher rate after it has trained down.

There is no longer an option for "Application Settings" in this firmware.
The "Application Settings" that was present in the bell software may still be there in the singtel software in the firewall icon. I think bell had the firewall settings renamed "Application Settings".

That said, this is NOT a rented modem.

Bought it off of Craigslist and the dude never returned my numerous calls or emails when I realized it was locked down by Bell.

The MDC is not required to flash the modem.

BUT it did work for me. I'm not with Bell and I got screwed buying this modem because it kept asking for Bell Registration.

Most obvious is the logo on the web interface, if it shows the 2Wire or blank then most likely it is not ISP branded but I am uncertain whether it is always customized for the ISP. Second thing which I think would probably verify almost 100% is in the MDC under Components, on mine it shows the following:


It should not show SBC or any provider. Take a screenshot if you can.
