Re: [TWC] NYC - Slow Speeds, Part 2

Just a small update, a network engineer called me today and informed me there is a problem in my area (Flushing, NY) and they are working on it. Hopefully they get this resolved as soon as possible.

I know of that, and I mentioned that to Level 3 support plenty of times. I'm going to follow up with Internal support tomorrow because I see no changes in speed today.

Aren't you guys lucky. I was getting an amazing 300kbps download pretty much all of yesterday. This is really pissing me off now.

I wish I could call it luck. I get nearly the same speeds you do during prime time hours. This test was done at 7:10am this morning when the network has close to no users on. This is now the network "should" be working 95% of the time, all the time with a good number of users sharing the bandwidth.

My connection been solid since the first Slow Speed in NYC. Been over 7-8 month and no speed problem. What piss me off is that only RR user are getting the Power Boost, If your with Earthlink or other ISP trough TWC you will not see power boost

Jamaica, NY here iv been having consist speeds for 2 weeks now and i havent been able to figure out the problem. When i surf the internet or play a game online i dont notice anything slow but when i do download i notice my speed is always stuck at 180KBps and it never goes higher no matter where i download from. I also recently got a new modem from TWC and it didnt effect my speeds at all. Here is the speedtest.

I have a similar problem, except that my speeds seem to be slow almost all the time. I'm in 11373 also. It's 11:49PM and here's my trace.

i've actually called them so many times and complained that i'm tired of it and am just dealing with it now. every night starting at 6pm, speeds drop down to below 56k speeds and then goes back to normal at 2am. this is daily on weekdays. on weekends the speeds are just crap all day. literally. saturday and sunday is crap speeds all day. mon-fri is below 56k speeds starting at 6pm-2am. this is what i've been dealing with for the past couple months now.

also, has anyone been having trouble searching newsgroups? i'm paying for my newsgroup service right now and im using altbinz. past couple days the search has been outta whack. can't search anything during certain hours. not sure if this is time warner's doing or what.

wkpower, if you are really that tired of the slow speeds, call up your telephone company to see if DSL is available where you get. Sure DSL may be slower than the cable but it should show to be more consistent.

My upload speed has decreased about 7% over the past few days. It averaged 730kbps and it now hovers around 680kbps. The download speed hasn't changed. Anyone else experiencing lower upload speeeds?

TIA....JL

This crap has been going on since I switched two weeks ago. speed has never changed. I have had three techs come out. Level one tech: Couldn't solve the problem, scheduled a plant call. Plant call: No problem with the line, scheduled Eng. call. Eng tech came here TODAY, not 4 hours ago, said there might be a splitter in the wall that wasn't 1 GHz. Tech left and scheduled an install tech to come re-run the line from either the floor tap or street.

Our building/unit is also wired for satellite. The 3-Way splitter for the satellite was right behind the wall plate. I ditched the splitter, now the cable line is coming directly from the floor tap. still no good.

UPDATE:

Spoke with my guy at Escalated/Advanced tech (866.506.0218). These are the guys that know their stuff, they don't lie to you, they are engineers, at least my guy is. They give you the straight story. It is actually a pleasure to deal with these guys, my rep is very nice and knowledgeable. He confirmed that there is an overloaded node in the Flushing/NE Queens vicinity.

However, he could not tell me WHEN it will be repaired. This is where my hatred for bureaucracy that is TWC/RR continues. He said he has put in the request to engineering to fix the known problem. He told me that all this dept. can do is put in the request. They cannot expedite the service order.

He told me to call in and speak with customer service. Tell them that his dept has put in the request to fix the node and ask Cust Serv to assign me a "Client Relations Specialist". Have this person/dept expedite the request to fix the node.

So I will do this now and I suggest that all of you whom are having problems do the same.
