| Hello,
This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to everyone in this thread about the incompatibilities with ZoneAlarm and Norton Internet Security 2009.
Even if you disable the real-time scanning function in ZoneAlarm you still risk the possibility of a conflict with Norton, since both applications contain similar functionality and you should never run more than one internet security suite at the same time.
If you choose to continue to use Norton Internet Security, then it is advised that you remove ZoneAlarm and any other third party internet security applications to avoid conflicts.

| Mike,
I just purchased antivirus 2009, and finally figured out that the conflict was with Zone Alarm after reading multiple postings. I uninstalled ZA in safe mode because my computer kept freezing when turning it on, even after unchecking zone alarm in the startup pane. However, if Symantec knows that, then why is there a "skip" link at the bottom of the application compatability page during installation? Also, after contacting on-line live help, which got me someone in India and an obvious communication barrier, All I want to know is if the "Intrusion Prevention" feature that it comes with is a fire wall or isn't it? If I turn off the "intrusion prevention", can I run a fire wall if this "intrusion prevention" isn't a fire wall??? |

Ok, it seems you would be correct. But to be truly fair about this, why wouldn't a proclaimed "REP" of the company make any reference at all to what the initial issue was in this thread. Seems a little dodgy to me.
My assessment would be that most people, at least ones on these forums, know that you shouldn't mix two firewalls or two AV's on one PC. But the initial poster did not do that. He did something that most all security conscious people do, and that is to run an AV program and a firewall, whether they be the same AIO program or two separate pieces of software.
Hey Mike, from the Norton Authorized Support Team, can you answer the initial post in this thread? Why can't a person run your NAV and ZAP along side each other? I have ran many AV programs along side ZAP before, without so much as a hiccup. |
