| Re: [ALL] P2P Uploading and Downloading on Cox HSI man i've been killing the p2p since the speed upgrade and honestly ...wait lemme tell you what i leeched ... 40GB Blu-ray iron-man 1080P and yes it looked stunning on my samsung, man i love my sammy.
it took a long while to snag 40Gb but it went full blast the whole way thru.
i will say this, im on a private torrent site, they use seedbox's so im not connected to 300 peers .. its more like 9 seedboxes 5 of em im not even getting parts from.
so it might look as if its a regular ...well a long download ...big game demo here Lol. i got over my cap every month without a peep, and i see no deep packet inspection going on. I LOVE THESE GUYS. ...not to mention fios is on the way .. so i doubt they would say a word, if they want my money still.

| Well its happening, I have been a p2p user for awhile.. I own thousands of DVD's and I go to the movies often. However there are some shows I want on the PC for traveling or other things so I just download them. Well COCKS shut my service off this morning because HBO complained I was sharing Entourage from my IP. The file finished at 2:45 am and I shut down my app at 7:00 am. They told me they have a 3 strike rule and they won't turn service back on.
So watch it if you are using p2p apps..

| Re: [ALL] P2P Uploading and Downloading on Cox HSI I think some further explanation is necessary here...
If you are actually to the point where we will not turn your service back on then we have suspended your services a few times already. In fact the last time we would have talked you would have had to call the Corp. Office and talked to the Corp. Abuse team. They would have explained in depth what was happening and asked you several times if you had any questions about what was going on. Once all that was done they would have asked you to acknowledge that if we received any more complaints that we would terminate your HSI account.
So rely if you were actually terminated after all that well...
Now if you feel that you termination was unjustified or that you were not properly warned about the consequences of copyright infringement then drop me a line and I'll happily research it.

| Re: [ALL] P2P Uploading and Downloading on Cox HSI Yes, but it applies to all abuse not just copyright. Those strikes also fall off over time (And it varies by abuse type as well), if you have a cox.net e-mail address we'll e-mail you a whole bunch of warnings before we start suspending/"striking" you. We rely don't want to turn your services off (It's a pain for everyone involved) and we sure don't want to terminate your service (Hence the very lengthly call to Atlanta and the acknowledgment of further complaints resulting in termination).
My suggestion would be to make sure you have a cox.net e-mail set up (If you don't simply call into your local call center's tech support and they can get it set up for you.) and then log into the webmail system and set up a forwarder to forward any e-mail's from abuse@cox.net to wherever you would like (If you run into any problems setting up a forwarder you local tech support should be able to assist you with that as well). It's much more pleasant to get a e-mail warning than to have your services interrupted!

| The issue here is not the use of P2P software but rather the content that is distributed. Items 3 and 7 would apply in this situation:
And yes, Cox does have a 3 strikes policy with regards to violations of the Acceptable Use Policy.

I got one saying I was hosting the "infringing site thepiratebay.org" in California, but thepiratebay.org is a website hosted in Sweden.
Hell I could send Cox a stack of DMCA notices if I had nothing better to do with my time. -- 09:F9:11:02:9D:74:E3:5B:D8:41:56:C5:63:56:88:C0

So watch it if you are using p2p apps.. The watching should be about copyrighted material. If you trade in MPAA/RIAA properties, you are asking for trouble. Simple as that. Don't use P2P for stuff you don't have the right to distribute, and you should be okay. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum

| Interesting....HBO sent Cox a email saying I was sharing their programs. Being that HBO doesnt have any decent programs and hasn't in 3 years, imho carnivale was the last decent show they had, it's clear the gunshot notices sent by different companies are working.
Lol...I even had to pretend to delete files for programs I've never even heard of..WTH is "Iron Jawed Angels"...sounds like porn to me but I should know since Cox claims I downloaded 4 episodes.
What a joke! And yes on the 3 strikes rules. Of course those strikes count if it's legit or not as well.

| Re: [ALL] P2P Uploading and Downloading on Cox HSI You are always welcome to challenge those notices. The procedure for doing so is located at: »www.cox.com/policy/#pp_8
Some things to remember, you are responsible for all traffic that goes through your modem. With that in mind do you have a wireless router at your location? Have you secured your wireless router? Could it have been a friend that you had over who was using your internet connection? Have you scanned your PC for virus/trojans? IF memory serves me correctly their are a couple of virus/trojans out their that will turn you PC into a PTP seeded without your knowledge.

Just to add to CoxTOC1 's comment: When I visit my sister, who has a Comcast connection, I often bring my computer along, and download fansubbed anime. I don't trade in MPAA/RIAA properties, and have never received a DMCA notice (though rumor has it that AT&T does send them out on complaints from rights holders). I haven't heard her say she's ever gotten one, either. But the potential does exist, when she allows me to hook up to her LAN. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum
