|  NIS 2008 -> 2009 upgrade problems
Everything was running fine on my NIS 2009 upgrade until this morning. During boot, I got the above error message prominently displayed. Has anyone else seen it? Edited to add that the Norton Internet Security 2009 error message is 8506, 430 (to make it easier for anyone to google this error).

|  I did click continue, while waiting, I ran the live update feature, which was about the only thing that worked. Once the live update feature ran, my problem seemed to go. My Norton Internet Security icon in the task area switched from a yellow with red, to a green with yellow (the normal everything is OK icon). The live update processed 2 updates, one seemed to be a program update.
During the time this failure was present I couldn't access the settings of my Norton Internet Security 2009.
After the update cleared the error, I was still in queue. I aborted the queue and re-booted. On reboot, NIS presented as green checked in the task icon. I could access my settings.
I found smart firewall had been turned off, and anti-spam had been turned off. I reset them, and re-booted one more time. On 2nd re-boot everything now seems normal. Except the networking icon isn't in my task area, and I always display it. I reset it in control panel (turned it off, exited then turned it back on, still not in my task area). I'm about to re-boot a 3rd time to see if it's fixed.
Until this morning, Norton Internet Security 2009 was running just fine.

| Would running the cited tool help now that the problem appears to be rectified?
Also note, my network icon returned to the task bar on 3rd boot.
Spybot Search and Destroy, latest version and definitions, did report that Windows Security was disabled in the registry. I had Spybot repair the registry entry.
Next up, Ad Aware.

Sigh, I guess using the Norton on-line help can't be avoided. On my 3rd boot, I get the above error message. The Norton Internet Security 2009 error message is now 3040, 10062.

| I can tell you that I used the new remote diagnostics just 2 days ago and it was well worth it. My problem was with a renewal date problem and they fixed it while I sat back and watched them do all the work.
Go for it !!!

| It appears the Norton tech installed a remote desktop manager from norton.com called rescue me or some such. He remotely ran and watched my desktop.
He seemed to uninstall, reboot and re-install Norton Internet Security 2009.
I am not a fan however of having remote desktop controls available on my PC. Is there a way to remove "rescue me" from my PC?
