Yep.. All phones have it now.. To many water damaged phones getting returned (I know i've done it in the past)
many have the label burried inside and the only way to find it is to take the thing apar into many pieces. Nextel (Motorola)was good for this. |

I dropped my BlackBerry in the water twice this past summer, while on the lake and swimming. It was both actually in the same lake, and the 2nd time I had to go get it on the bottom, so it took about 2 minutes, because it was dark.
Anyway, I just removed the battery after the first time it fell it, so the 2nd time it fell in it didn't have a battery in it. I brought it home and poured distilled water all over it, and then let it dry for about 24 hours and now it works just as good as new. |

I have used distilled water then followed it up with rubbing alcohol, dismantled, and let dry. Worked!

It is called a Liquid Damage Indicator, or LDI for short.
On our phones (TMO) it is usually located in the battery compartment. The water must penetrate the back cover, and then seep underneath the battery before it turns red.
If we process an exchange and get a phone that has a red LDI, we charge $100 to the bill. Sometimes, that's not a bad thing. Imagine if you had a $200 or $300 phone replaced. You KNOW it had water damage and the warranty doesn't cover it, yet you lie you way through. Well, you just bought a reconditioned phone for half or one-third the price!
Anyhow, I am not endorsing that behavior. Sometimes the LDI is pink. That means water vapor penetrated the phone. If someone takes their phone into the bathroom and takes a steamy shower, after a while, the LDI turns pink, and the phone may stop working at 100% capacity. Sometimes if the phone is in your pocket all day, your phone sweats on the inside. Either way, the guarantee does not cover it.
However, if you do find yourself taking a phone out of water, go ahead and pour pure H20 all over it, and dry the parts as best you can. Then dunk them into a container of uncooked rice for a few days. Place in your fridge. The rice removes all moisture!
