| [Wired] BEFSR41 - WAN Connection Reset - Rx PPP TERM_REQ
I own a BEFSR41 firmware version 2.00.1 and the router keep reseting randomly through out the day.
Each time the code "Rx PPP TERM_REQ" appear in the router log, the WAN connection drop and it try to get a new IP from the ISP. During disconnection, all my lan connections are available though and I can access the router via a browser locally (192.168.x.x).
I've contact my ISP and my log prove that I was connected while disconnection occurs between the router and the modem.
I've googled about the "Rx PPP TERM_REQ" code but unfortunately, not much.
From the Linksys site, I should have the latest firmware for the router revision.
Does anyone know what is sending this, why and how this can be overcome?
Thank you |

@aei.ca | reply to Megistal Yes I do have a DSL Modem
It's a: GNet SKU: BB2060 Model: GBB2060-XI |

  Mountaineer1 Big WVU Fan Premium,MVM join:2002-01-12 Universe | Is the GBB2060-XI a combination modem/router? Does it have a user interface? |

@aei.ca
| It seems so from the specs. However there's no interface to configure / access it.

| According to the manual,you should be able to access it by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser's address bar when your PC is directly connected to the modem. Use admin as the username and password. -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it. |

@aei.ca
| Hummm how can I say that
I've plug my modem directly in my PC. Internet was available and tried the admin password (without success, I'm the only one who can change it so I'm wondering why it has changed, the modem was new when I bought it)
Then I've switched back with the router, Internet still accessible.
After these two switch (router -> modem -> router) if I tried to plug my modem back in the pc, I'm unable to gain access on the internet even if I reboot the modem and disable / enable the network card.
However using the router, internet is accessible right away.
Weird... |

@aei.ca | I've found that the password might be different. Maybe they changed it somehow. I'll try the new one when I'll be able to acces my modem directly via the pc |

| Does the router automatically get an IP address from the modem,via DHCP or do you use PPPoE as the WAN type? -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it. |
|
  Megistal
@aei.ca | I'm using PPPoE |

| Then your ISP must have the modem locked into bridge mode,since the router is handling the PPPoE authentication. Is the router's WAN PPPoE set to "Keep Alive: Redial Period 30 Sec."? Is your MTU set to 1492? -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it. |

@aei.ca
| Yes it is, but set to 60 seconds
MTU: 1424 Local DHCP Server: On DDNS: Disable MAC Clone: Disable NAT: Enable Dynamic Routing: Disable Block Anonymous Internet Requests: On Filter Multicast: Off Filter Internet NAT Redirection: Off Filter IDENT(port 113): On |

@aei.ca
| reply to Mountaineer1 I already had the MTU issue but it is solved from a long time ago (easier to detect imo).
I could use an higher value but this is the recommended value from the ISP so for troubleshooting something else I'll leave it as-is for now (and I didn't had any issue lowering it) |

  Mountaineer1 Big WVU Fan Premium,MVM join:2002-01-12 Universe | Have you had this modem for quite a while,or is this a new unit? |
|
  Megistal
@aei.ca | I bought both (modem & router) on June last year (2007) |
|
  Mountaineer1 Big WVU Fan Premium,MVM join:2002-01-12 Universe | And this disconnection problem just started recently,or is this an ongoing issue? Are all analog devices(Phones,Fax,Cable/SAT Box)filtered? -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it. |
|
  Megistal
@aei.ca
| An ongoing issue that I was tired of but never had much time to spare on it. When it's happening, I disconnect and reconnect the router (5 sec delay on average) and the connection is brought back immediately (well the time Windows need to reconnect on the router, the little animation of the network connection in the systray)
Yes everything is analog. I only have a single phone here which is filtered.
Only internet & the phone on the line, nothing more. |
|
  Mountaineer1 Big WVU Fan Premium,MVM join:2002-01-12 Universe | So you're losing the connection between the router,and the PC card? |
|
  Megistal
@aei.ca
| I would say from the router to the modem because when it's occurring I can still access the other PC normally.
What I've noticed when a disconnection occurs: - ISP's logs does not show me as disconnected. - Modem WAN light is not blinking (for SLAM connection) - Modem ALM (alarm) light is not lit - WAN is not accessible - Both computers connected via LAN using the router are accessible and can see each other and exchange files without issues - Rx PPP TERM_REQ code appear in the Router Log - WAN Router Status is "Connecting" (not connected) - Windows on all computers does not "lose" the connection with the router
I suppose the router has something not well configured / defective / issue communicating with the modem / a virus but I would be very surprised by the latter |

| It sounds like a modem sync issue,too me. Do you have another modem,or can you borrow a modem to test with? -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it. |
