Yesterday afternoon we received what was left of Hurricane Ike. It was dry, but we had 50-60 MPH winds with gusts up to 80 MPH. We were fortunate, as we had several big limbs and trees down, but they didn't hit anything. My in-laws lost a few shingles. We were without power for about 29 hours. Sorry for the quality, it was my older Canon S10. |

| reply to bolt Actually it's in the Med center. Across 288 is a bad area. From the outside our townhome complex looks like a prison but we have no crime. Live guards at the gate etc. -- Black is the absence of light, but white is the absence of memory, the color of can't remember.

| reply to bolt It's hard for me to fathom how far-reaching this storm was. I lived on Galveston Island for 20 years and across the causeway in Texas City for around 15 more. My heart goes out to those people, as many friends have lost entire homes or have major damages and life upsets to deal with. My best friend of 40+ years suffered major damage to her home on the island (near the hospital) but suffered very little to the home she now lives in League City, on Galveston Bay.
She sent me this link of some wonderful photographs that put Ike's Texas/Louisiana ravages. Thought our members might enjoy these, are they are far better than we're seeing in media coverage.
