| Box problem or other problem??
I am trying to determine the "true" source of a particular issue that I have been experiencing.
Three times in the past week, HD Theater, History HD, and Animal Planet HD have not been working. Initially, when tuning to those channels, the picture has a scrambled appearance to it. If I tune to other channels and then go back to one of the ones mentioned above, there is no picture this time.
The frequency or pattern of this happening is: 9/7, 9/8, and 9/12. On 8/27, the channels mentioned above were a part of a total of 15 HD channels that weren't working.
The channels get restored by either a reset signal from support or unplugging the box and plugging it back in. I'd like to find out if this issue is related to a problem with the box or if there is something else going on? |

@comcast.net | I've had a Comcast tech come out in the past for various other issues and every single time, it's always indicated that no problem was found and that the signal readings are in normal range. |

| reply to cb2367 It's probably not a signal strength issue as much as it is an ingress issue. If it is happening on just those 3 HDs, it is likely that there is some sort of interference on the frequency that carries those 3 channels getting into the cable system. Maybe there is an off-air local broadcast on that particular frequency. I would be sure that the cables feeding the box have good connectors, are well shielded, and are coming off of a well shielded splitter. |

| reply to cb2367 Cb2367, do any of your neighbors or friends who live on the same street as you have HD with comcast and did they experience that problem on the exact same days as you?
Also was it just those 3 channels or was it a total of 15 channels with those 3 being part of the 15?
MadMaNN, is most likely right in that your home may have some wiring issues allowing interference into the wires within or connected to your home. One other possibility which does pop up from time to time is the frequency carrying those channels from the cable systems head end or something within the head end is broken. THat is why I wanted to know if anyone else on your street had the same problem at the same time.
But if you have 15 channels being messed up it more than likely is within the wiring inside or immediately connected to your home? |

| OK, on 8/27/08, the following HD channels were out: 405 VERSUS/GOLF HD 409 UNIVERSAL HD 410 A&E HD 412 HD THEATER 413 NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC HD 414 FOOD HD 415 HGTV HD 416 HBO HD 420 USA HD 422 HISTORY HD 423 CNN HD 424 DISCOVERY HD 425 TLC HD 426 ANIMAL PLANET HD 427 SCI-FI HD 429 AMC HD
On 9/7, 9/8, and 9/12 HD Theater, History HD, and Animal Planet HD were out. As you can see those three channels were part of the 15 that were out the first time this issue came up.
In the past, technicians have come over and have actually checked out the frequency that the channels are running on, and the equipment indicates that all is fine. They then go to the meter room and do the same thing -- again, everything is fine. In one of the past visits, they put a new coax connector on the cable going to the box. The box has also been replaced in the past.
A lot of people in my community actually have DirecTV, so I don't know if anyone else near me is having the exact same problem that I am having. |

| reply to cb2367 Here is some additional information to add to this "case".
On 9/14/08 at 8:45 p.m., HD Theater, History, and Animal Planet were once again out. I unplugged the box, waited a few minutes, and plugged it back in. The channels were restored. As fate would have it, the same three channels went out AGAIN 30 minutes later.
This now marks the fifth time this week with these three channels, and the sixth time overall that I have had an issue with the HD channels.
I sent an e-mail to Comcast requesting them to check the headend for issues, however, I have no idea what kind of a response I am going to receive. |

| reply to cb2367 I had a technician come out and look at the problem I was experiencing. It still can't be determined if there is a box problem or a problem with the frequency.
It just so happens that the three channels I am having an issue with are all on the same frequency (699). The signal levels all checked out OK (as I figured they would).
One question I have though, and I am trying to recall the wording that the technician used, is that supposedly the DB signal is coming through with errors, but this signal is correcting itself. Could this have anything to do with the consistent tiling that is going on? |
