Re: DirecPath at Post Collier Hills

According to the poster here »Direcpath feedback in Atlanta, DirecPath was being offered at $40 to $45 per per month for 2.5/384 speeds, which was not a good deal. How much did they tell you they would be charging you?

Yeah I did see that post, while not a good deal by any means ATT DSL requires local phone service for anything above 1.5mbps.

As far as comcast goes their current internet promo is $19.99 for six months and then back to $42.95. The cheapest cable tier is $29.95, which is cheaper than $38, and their cheapest bundle is internet+voice for $52. I might go the internet+voice route. They also have a 12 month promotional offer for cable and internet for $66.

Really though, I have no need for cable or phone service. I wish we could get cheap broadband like they do in many other parts of the world.

Ah ha just scrolled down far enough to see that comcast offers a basic cable service for $18.95, not too bad.

What did they actually quote you for their service?

Direcpath was quoting $39.99 for "up to 10mbps", key words being "up to".

I would suggest checking with your neighbors to see if they have the service, how reliable it is, and how fast of a connection they are getting.

Edit: Doing a Google search on them I see a lot of dissatisfied customers.

yeah, it isn't too encouraging. I wish windstream offered service in Atlanta. 12mbps without a phone line for $44.95 with unlimited newsgroup access. I download all my TV shows and put them on the HTPC, one of the biggest reasons I have no desire for TV service.

Interesting;
I typed in "ATT dsl without phone service" in to google and was greeted with this result: »www.att.com/gen/general?pid=11523

It shows several options for DSL without voice from 768 to 6mbps.

If I go through att.com and click on the "Internet & DSL" tab it kicks me to a bellsouth page where the only voiceless option is 1.5mbps. Odd, I have the same address in both sites. Then I stumbled on this link; »www.bellsouth.com/consumer/inets···pop.html
This popup shows several choices for a couple bucks more than my googled link.

I guess I'll have to call around Monday and talk to an actual person to see what my options are. Leaning towards comcast limited basic with the $20 6-month promotion and going from there, i.e. jump ship after 6-months and sign up with ATT.

This must be for customers with Comcast cable television. The no-cable monthly cost is $57.95--that is what they are charging me ever since they took over the Adelphia franchise in GA.
