| AT&T fiber optic service?
A door salesman from ATT came by today and said ATT is now offering fiber optic service in my area with 10mb down and 2.5mb up for internet for $30 per month? I'm wondering if anybody has heard of this service because it doesn't sound anything like Uverse. |

You were lied to - it's common. It's only Fiber to the curb right now. The speed you were quoted is correct but most people don't get the full speed. Fiber to the curb IS NOT fiber service. I get fiber to the RT for my DSL service. I guess you could say I have "fiber" service too.
I didn't think they had unbundled from Uverse yet. I think you still have to take the TV service but can (maybe) still cancel that part of it and only keep the DSL.
The $30/mo price you were told is a signup price that only lasts a year probably. I think it's really something like $60/mo.
Uverse... very high compression (less quality than DirectTV or Dish HD) and only 1 HD channel on in your house at anyone time. And no NFL Ticket. No thank you! |

| reply to getthegate Yeah.. that's the Uverse service. I had it prior to moving to another part of euless, and the billing was awful. They had me set up with 4 billing accounts, and all of those accounts had equipment fees when I moved.
THe in home gateway is not as flexible as it should be in regards to what ports I opened up, or tried to forward too.. my VPN connection for work kept dropping about every 10-15 mins.
When I moved I got a call from ATT about getting the service again, and when I explained my service issues they said that it would be more reliable than DSL. It was dedicated, unlike DSL which is a shared service. When I mentioned the billing issues they sorta just dropped the converstation and let me go.
One of the drawbacks to having employees that know what they are taking about is that you have to pay them more than 8 bucks an hours.. unless you want the customers to pay more for their service. |

@swbell.net | reply to getthegate Actually all the order processing (etc) employees were bulk hired for Uverse through temp agencies and probably make $15 an hour (with no benifits of any kind). They aren't in the union. |

| I interviewed with one of those temp agencies in Feb. It was door to door and you got $75 if someone signed up and it was a per hour rate. The interviewer was wearing a golf shirt. I was pretty pissed I fell for it. About a week later, I fell for the same thing with Verizon - it was a cattle call and I was the only one wearing a tie. The interviewer never showed up and all 15 of us left a resume and went home. |
