| reply to battleop HP switches are really actually quite nice. If I wasnt using Cisco, I'd probably be using HP. I have had one in the past, nothing but praise for HP switches from me.
I know others that use them aswell, nothing but praise from them too.
Cisco isnt the answer all the time. |

| We use all Cisco in our datacenter. I've heard good things about the HP switches. If I didn't use Cisco I would look at Foundry or HP. Our upstream provider uses World Wide Packet on their side of our link and they always have good things to say about the WWP gear. |

| reply to battleop That's pretty cool, thanks for posting the link. We've used WWP packet switches on our edge before, and they are decent simple little switches. I still like Cisco everywhere though . -- Luminaire My Blog |

| reply to battleop Ah, I feel I must post to give this particular vendor a voice. If you look carefully at the right corner of this picture: »mediaarchive.cern.ch/MediaArchiv···Icon.jpg, you will see that infact ALL core gear CERN uses is Force10 Networks E1200 TeraScale switches. HP is used for some access, but Force10 is the core of that whole infrastructure. Reason for that is that Cisco simply doesn't have a switch fast enough and with as much 10G/1G density as Force10. Force10 Networks has a specific niche in high port density and very fast switching, and as such is the core equipment for Google and Yahoo!.
P.S. I do not work for Force10, but had the pleasure to install a TeraScale E1200, and it's a good piece of equipment. |

| reply to battleop Yea, I just saw the high res link, you beat me to it. I was up in Force10's HQ a few weeks ago to run a load test on a pair of E600s. Very impressive if you have a large DC and don't need any additional features like MPLS and VRF (which is coming to Force10 gear soon). |
