| Arena Etiquette Questions
Well, I'm stuck at a kind of crossroads with my character regarding arena & server state, so I thought I'd take my question to a more productive forum.
Alright, here's my situation.
I think I've got my rogue up to an "arena level" gear/ability of play. I'm not looking to hit 2000s right away, but being able to hit even 1700s would be nice to buy Brutal stuffs.
Now, my clutch of IRL friends that I enjoy playing/PvPing around with hasn't fielded any kind of 2s or 3s matchups. Their characters that I potentially can arena with are far from ready (ie. in PvE/leveling gear, no resilience to speak of). In fact, the PvP characters they have (one warrior, one druid), they seem more content to work up their 2s to higher ratings than they are working me in for 2s and/or 3s.
So, my limitation right now is having arena experience on my rogue, as well as finding a partner - both very hard to "break into" on my server (Blackrock). Basically, any potential partners now avaliable this late in the game are the undergeared and/or unskilled (seriously, keyboard turners and below). People that're experienced in any way/shape/form are in high demand, and thus, expect a high quality partner to pair up with - something I can't really offer since I have no way of getting arena experience from the get-go.
Now with the background outta the way, here's my question(s). I was thinking of the prospects of throwing gold at the matter. My choices are:
• Paying gold to a high Arena experience player for tutoring. No Arena Veteran wants to run 2s or 3s with someone who's untested; maybe gold would keep them around long enough for me to learn something. • Paying gold to a high Arena experience player to play w/ me to play 2s (or whatever) until we get as far as we're going to get, and then stop. I have no issue in getting points, but it's the personal rating now causing a problem. • Paying gold for "Personal Rating" services. This usually entails giving gold to other high-rated arena teams to play your character through for high Personal Ratings. I'm the least inclined to this option, as I really dislike giving out my account info that readily.
Also, if I was to buy a partner for tutoring/ringer purposes, I've been advised that a rogue/dis priest is the most forgiving partnership for newbie arena players. I kind of like the flows of 2s more than 3s, and especially 5s...any truth to this statement?
And so there's my query. I think I have good foundation to be an arena player. I can 1v1 anyone fairly well from 100% down (duels/world PvP/etc.), but I'm really just lacking the experience of working with a partner and/or managing multiple targets. My gear shouldn't be too much an issue either:

Any input would be appreciated. I still love playing my rogue (grinding gold and honor at the same time is fun as all hell), but I would like to sharpen my swords further. |

| reply to AquaBlaze Spam your stats in a major city and someone will come along. You can get experience with a scrub player and eventually you'll find something better. Also look for a 5s team, a lot of times they blow up but you can find a good 2s or 3s group in them. -- I'd take the time to insult your intelligence, but you probably wouldn't get it. |

| reply to AquaBlaze Rogue/Disc Priest is forgiving, but your Priest needs to be well geared (492 - 494 res) and very experienced (obviously). I'm only stating the obvious because for this to be a teaching relationship, you need someone who can take charge out there and direct you to where you need to be/go/focus, etc, and not die often. An experienced D.Priest can rally wins out there by flexing between offensive and defensive maneuvering, and knowing when to do this.
The gold thing is hit or miss in my opinion. Honestly, you shouldn't have to do that, but if it's something you really feel you need to do then have at it. I certainly wouldn't go the "buying the rating" route because if you or your partner are caught, you could lose all of the gear you've earned.
I know I've pimped this AJ site a lot, but to tell the truth it's very helpful and might prove to be another resource for you in your journey.
They have specific BG forums and people looking for partners here: »www.arenajunkies.com/forumdisplay.php?f=82
You may find someone who is in your exact situation and thus save yourself some gold in the process.
I'll check out your gear and post some comments in a little bit.
Good luck! -- Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 PM. Please use the back door.

These are usually the people who say it's "unpossible" for people to respond the way they do in arena. It's a bad sign when you can hear them click-mashing over vent.
said by Zyncotl :You can get experience with a scrub player and eventually you'll find something better. I can't really vouch for that. Having a lump and/or invalid for a 2s partner hasn't really gotten me experience in anything...well, other than seeing what a 2v1 feels like.
said by Zyncotl :Also look for a 5s team, a lot of times they blow up but you can find a good 2s or 3s group in them. Again, the problem is that "entry" into even 1600-1700 5v5 groups demand folks that're already experienced into that content. Since I haven't touched anything beyond 1500, nor had anyone worth note to try and achieve more, I'm kinda barred from entry into that route.
said by Garbs :The gold thing is hit or miss in my opinion. Honestly, you shouldn't have to do that, but if it's something you really feel you need to do then have at it. Hell, I'd love a free solution if possible. However, going through the "usual" public trade channel route has netted nothing but the highest calibur of unskilled PvPers. I just figured throwing gold at the problem might get me entry whereas the free channels have not. If people won't hang around with my unexperienced self, then maybe gold would entice them to put up with my arena noobness long enough for me to actually learn things.
I'll check out your link though, thanks. |

| reply to AquaBlaze Try new partners until you find one that sticks. Don't pay for an arena team. It's lame and it makes you lame. Don't look down on your potential partners so much, you might find someone with some skill.
Also remember, as awesome as you may be...it's never just your partners fault. |

| reply to AquaBlaze It's called faceplanting. I was on a trip with a bad connection, wanted some quick, free arena points, so I ran a dual-boxed 2v2 while I was AFK, connection permitting.
The 5v5 is the same thing. I don't have any real partner, so I buy a fresh 5v5 team every week where me and the same friends faceplant for points. It gets me 300 points every week on multiple toons, enough to buy most of S3 eventually, but I wouldn't mind getting a sincere attempt at Gladiator gear. |

You are talking about wanting quality partners, a quality partner is going to see your gear (which is very good) and your poor rating and think it's you. It's a reasonable conclusion to come to. |

said by awesome :Don't look down on your potential partners so much, you might find someone with some skill. I don't look down on anyone, but I am being sincere at the levels of players offered. If I spam trade, I get people who're barely entering PvP (2-3 pieces of S2 and green leveling gear), or just terribads (ie. keyboard turning, can't perform half of their class skills, etc.).
said by awesome :Also remember, as awesome as you may be...it's never just your partners fault. Try playing with Warriors that don't know charge, or Druids that don't know how to shift. |

Again, the teams looking for spots are those who specifically (ie. mention this in the trade/post spam) want folks who've already hit 1700-1800 ratings, or whatever. I'd rather actually *have* that experience when I respond to them, rather than lying about it. Meanwhile, the 5s get me enough points to keep upgrading my gear.
I could drop the 2v2 and 3v3 (failed attempts at Arenaing and/or previous point farms, etc.) since the 5v5s are what give me points, but that isn't the problem really. |

After I left for class, I figured someone would look at those ratings on the board and make conclusions, but I forgot to post the history behind the worthless numbers.
...and damn, I wish I could do 1600 with my eyes closed. My attempts at 2v2s have been quite damn near literally trying to carry my idiot partner through the matches. Kinda hard to solo 2 S3/4 players in S2/3. (and yes, our 1500s do have people in S3/4 w/ Vengeful weapons) |

| reply to AquaBlaze I figured your numbers were due to some explanation, as it is difficult to really bring it down that low. Sooner or later you run into teams that are simply just worse that you, so going below 1300 is a challenge. :P
Your gear isn't too bad, actually. You've put a lot of work in to obtain 410 res, which is nice. You also have the Merc shoulders and weapons--good choices because those may be areas you hold on to for quite some time considering the high-rating requirements to replace them. Mongoose enchants are nice as well.
If it's possible through your budget to upgrade the gems in your shoulders to epic versions that will help (every little extra bit of punch is worth it in my opinion); again the Vengeful shoulders are 'probably' unobtainable this season for you considering their high rating, let alone the Brutal version. I'd go so far to upgrade the head to an epic gem (considering the 1700 rating required there). Again, if gold is available, every extra bit of power/punch helps man.
Anyway, good luck and let us know where you net out after looking into potential partners through AJ.

| reply to AquaBlaze Have you considered another dps partner? I see you mentioned a poorly played warrior. You could probably find many hunters in your situation.
From what I have read there are some pretty successful Hunter/Rogue and defiantly Rogue/Rogue teams out there. You could reasonably get 1700 rating.
Ran into two nasty enhanced Shamans the other day. I play War/Shaman. I dropped the ball in that match and they burned my healer down faster than 2 Rogues ever have. |

I can do that just fine in my current gear. I'm just looking for more things to do after the inevitible epic mount + epic gems. Arena just seemed like a logical thing, but the entry costs on my server are frustrating.
The most fun I get out of the game is playing on the open World. The PvP situations and tomfoolery you can get into there with friends is more than I ever got out of Arena. |
