| Switching from Bell (yes another!) - but is this normal?
Hi all,
My contract was to end last Saturday (september 6th), so I cancelled it (more than a month ago), and set the installation date with Teksavvy for today, Monday Sept. 8th (since they don't do it during the weekend). We were out of the house from Saturday morning to Sunday evening, so we were expecting Bell to be gone by then, and we'd have no internet. Well, when we came back, we still had the Internet... I called Bell, and they told me that my account was indeed marked as being calcelled, and it could take from 6 to 12 hours to actually take affect. I thought, even though we got disconnected at midnight on Saturday, it was more than 12 hours past when I called. But I just thought that maybe it's just taking longer for some reason.
Well, we are now Monday morning, and we still have the internet. Today is the day TSI is supposed to connect me. My worry: will this affect TSI's installation? Will it prevent them from doing it? |

| once you get your login from TSI, you in theory could go right ahead and change your login from the bell one to the TSI one.
when you ordered TSI did you give them your Cancellation number from bell, and the date you told bell you wanted the cancellation to begin?
all that info is important to tsi
i really dont see any problems that can happen besides Bell pulling your linecard. |

| reply to MrBabou I did tell them my cancellation date, but I don't remember giving them a confirmation number. I don't remember them asking me for it though. But all seemed to be in order when I called them a couple of weeks ago (I might have given it to them though, my memory is just not good sometimes).
I just set up my POP3 e-mail account in Gmail, and it works. So maybe I can just change my modem and router and try the connection then? I had to buy a Speedtouch 516 because the Bell modem was a rental. Also I bought a WRT54GL router to load Tomato/MLPPP version on there. |

| The last date of my Bell connection is Sept 10, and my wife called TSI last Friday (Sept 5) to sign up. To our surprise TSI didn't want the cancellation number. Yes, TSI didn't want it - not asked the first time my wife called, and when she called back to tell TSI the cancellation number the girl said it's less than 5 business days from the activation (Sept 11) so they don't need it.
Anyway, I tried the TSI login and it was properly set up. Now I'm keeping my finger crossed as Bell doesn't pull my line card. |

for MrBabou. Try logging on with your TSI login and see if it works.
If you have any more issues post in the direct forum, or call TSI directly.

| reply to MrBabou I think what happened is that even though the cancellation date was the 6th, since the switch was not ordered before the 8th, Bell did not 'release' the line before the 8th. I wasn't able to connect to TSI before 22h45 on the 8th, so that might be what happened.
Anyway, that is resolved and passed. Now if I could only get this Tomato/MLPPP working correctly.... Right now, my speeds are worse than before, for torrents and web... |

| You have to let The router do the dialing. so the modem has to be in Bridge mode. and you need to set the DSL line to Single MLPPP |

I don't know what's going on exactly, I thought I did everything correctly. I think I might have to play around with QoS, maybe?... |
