| [Exchange] Outlook and webmail
This is stumping my companies regional tech people, so I ask here. The company I work for is fairly large and we are issued laptops (WinXP). Until recently the laptop I had been using was working fine. I get company email thru Outlook. We also have the ability to use the web mail from non company computers.
A few weeks ago I was having problems with my laptop so they replaced it. My stuff was moved to the new laptop and my mail account was established. I get email fine thru outlook. Whats happened is I no longer get any email thru the web mail access.
I've spent hours on the phone with tech support and they can see the problem (I give them my log in and let them access my web mail), but they seem to be lost. I have to work with the local IT people and honestly, they're just up to the job. Anyone have any ideas?? |

| reply to dsl Anywhere I think that is simple....been there and done that...it is all going to the old PC even if it no longer exists...figure that out...
Fast Solution..you have to create a new master ID and start over. Sorta of like going from NY to LA by way of London and Hong Kong.
Slow Solution..get some book room tech to try and figure it out by going straight from NY to LA. |

Web mail doesn't "go" anywhere.

| reply to dsl Anywhere The company is running MS Exchanger server. The laptop runs MS Office Outlook 2003 SP3. The web based email is MS Office Outlook Web Access.
My email server has not changed.
I send and receive emails from my laptop using Outlook just fine. The problem that Corporate IT cannot figure out is why my emails do not appear in Outlook Web Access.
I'll throw another variable into this, I also have Outlook on a computer here at home and can VPN into the company. It also shows no email in my In Box.
I keep coming back to some setting in Outlook as it worked with my previous laptop. |

@comcast.net | reply to dsl Anywhere On your new computer, your outlook is deleting mails after they are downloaded. There is a setting in outlook that is not enabled by default to keep files on the mail server. I believed it's in the advanced settings somewhere. |

@embarqhsd.net | reply to dsl Anywhere I'll have to find the setting then. When these laptops are loaded with O/S and programs it's done by a push from a corporate server. Also dependent on your position is what type of load set they give you. |

| reply to dsl Anywhere OK. Here it goes. I looked all over outlook to find some setting that says leave on server and I couldn't find anything. So if there's a setting where you you find it.
At least I'm on my Mac at home and don't have to put up with M$ again until tomorrow. |

| I wonder if your work Outlook's profile is set in POP/SMTP mode instead of Exchange. With the Exchange provider, all mail is always on the server. Outlook is basically a "window" to the server store. But if your profile ended up connecting to the POP provider instead of the Exchange provider, that'd explain what you're seeing. I need to fire up my Outlook 2003 VM, which I'll do when I clear enough desk space to see that monitor. But while you're waiting, you want to check your account settings (on the laptop Outlook) to make sure it's using the Exchange provider. |

Your email account should be of the type 'MAPI' or 'Exchange' and NOT POP3/SMTP.
If this is the case make sure to call the help desk and have them walk you through proper configuration, otherwise you'll be wondering where all your mail went. |

| If the OP is connecting off of the Corp. network, then the settings should reflect either IMAP or Pop/SMTP, depending on the server settings. If connecting through POP/SMTP, the settings under the account Advanced tab, will allow for change to/from keeping on the server.
More info is available at »www.slipstick.com, and making the changes unless locked down by corp. should be able to be done. Personally if the OP is using a corp. laptop, I would stick with the Outlook Web Access while roaming, and only use Outlook when in the office. |

| reply to dsl Anywhere It took someone at regional IT to get someone at corporate level IT to fix the problem. As an administrator, they were able to log in and change 1 setting in my Outlook settings. The problem was all email was going to a personal inbox on my laptop. The fix allowed me to have a choice of personal folders only OR an Outllook In box AND personal folders.
Never noticed any difference as I still had an inbox |

At least I'm on my Mac at home and don't have to put up with M$ again until tomorrow. Using 2007 might be what you were looking for: Tools > Account Settings > Change > More Settings > Advanced > Last box should be "Leave copy of MSG on server" |
