| [Wired] BEFDSR41 Not glad to be had by Linksys!
I got this modem /router because it is wireless ready. But when I got ready to configure the gateway useing the 192.168.1.1 address, I could not enter the site. I called their support (which is now in the Phillipines) I was told that this product was out of warranty. But I could extend the warranty and there by get tech support( $29.99 for 24 hrs. or 39.99 for 6 months)Then I would be able to enter the server and configure the router. I dont want tech support I just want to configure my gateway. Any work around? I am willing to do major surgery. TIA Mike |

| Just a guess, but did you do this? From the User's Guide:
"Note:You must insert the Linksys wireless PC card in the PC card slot on the back of the Gateway before you can use the wireless features."
It is "wireless-ready", but that does require their wireless PC card for the gateway.
No offense, btw, but you called Tech Support after all...so you did seek to access tech support, for which, unfortunately, you are out of warranty. This is not in contravention with their stated policy.
If you do not have the user's guide for some reason, it is easily accessible at Linksys' web site. -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

| reply to tontine Good evening Pete, I just bought this last week from Gear XS it is new and retail.I have not tried to use the wireless capabilities. I just want to establish a gateway, and I cannot access the server to do this. Is there any other way to do this? Has anyone else had this problem? Mike |

| Hmm, if it was just bought last week, why are they saying it is out of warranty?
However, I see what you mean, you simply want to access the router's firmware to set it, right?
Does the modem connect ok with your DSL service in the first place? -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

| reply to tontine I have sent an email to linksys sales asking why the person at support told me that. No I am not able to connect to my ISP. At first when I would enter 192.168.1.1 I would get a login screen I would enter admin in lower case , then nothing would happen. Now I can not even get a login screen. Mike |

Mike That being the case...one of two things. If there is a re-set button on that unit, try it, and see if you get a refresh, allowing you to access it...or...it is "broke", return it for another one or a refund. -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

| reply to tontine Hi Pete; I reset the modem and now it does what it did before. After the server page finally loads it gives me this message "PROTECTED OBJECT This object on the ROM pager server is protected." I recieved an email from linksys and they succeded in not answering a single question I ask. But they did it very politely. Anybody out there have any problems like this? Mike |
