westel 327W NAT DMZ Port forward none of them work !!!

Hey folks, I recently subscribe verizon DSL and received westel 327w modem/router. I have been spending weeks trying to setup port forwading/NAT/DMZ to get to my webserver running XP on the private LAN. FTP works fine. The port I use is 8980 or any other number except 80. None of them work. I got the "Network error (TCP_Error), web server maybe too busy..." message . Can anyone shed some lights ? Thanks.

You have to test this from outside your network. Trying to connect from inside your network won't do it, because the modem (and most low cost home routers) doesn't handle the necessary loopback.

I did try from outside of the network. I had my friend from his home to try to connect to my web server. He got the "network error (TCP_ERROR)..." message. I had him FTP to my box, it worked. Besides I don't see anything being logged by 327w logs when my friend got the error message. It really frucstrates me ..!

If the port forwarding is not working, I would have expected a "connection attempt timed out" error. I'm not sure whether browsers report this as TCP_ERROR.
