| Because OOL subscribers pay CV for Internet use, if they provided free wi-fi to iO subscribers, a lot if users might cancel their OOL. It is supposed to be a way for those who use OOL to access the Internet with a wireless connection, even when they are not at home. Also why would they want to provide free internet use to people who subscribe to another ISP. I suggest you get your Internet provider to provide wi-fi for you. -- Warning, If you post nonsense and use misinformation and are here to argue based on those methods, you will be put on ignore. |

Makes sense to me |

| reply to rhard49 It is interesting that the newer reports state that they will not offer it to Non-OOL subscribers for a fee and the original at least here at dslreports said they would offer it for a fee to non-subscribers. They probably decided that it might eat into their OOL subscriber base. -- Warning, If you post nonsense and use misinformation and are here to argue based on those methods, you will be put on ignore. |

The goal is to build and retain business for OOL, not give away your products to customers that don't want to pay for your internet service. For non-OOL customers, there are plenty of providers that offer paid hotspots. |

| LOL, I was just thinking of that logic. It really is a different type of wireless then a hotspot. You don't need to be in a very specific location, ie hotspot, if you are in the OOL network area. Given the price of monthly hotspots access, for anyone who really needed wireless it could be a good bargain. -- Warning, If you post nonsense and use misinformation and are here to argue based on those methods, you will be put on ignore. |

If you dont have one then dont complain. Its a perk for having the internet service. Its a way to differentiate themselves from fios. |

| reply to rhard49 I like the fact that there doing this. I get to go to the movies for free on tuesdays and any other day is $6, I have my caller ID on my TV, Free POP3 email, a Free website, and soon I'll have free wifi. Not to mention my internet with boost is good enough for me. So why should I move to Fios? |

| reply to TheWiseGuy Yes I also saw the original press releases which led me to believe it would be free to cablevision customers not just OOL customers. It would be nice to have but I don;t use enough wifi anywhere but my home network for it to matter. But they should consider it made me pause from switching entirely to fios |

| You'd be ticked if customers who pay them 130-140 a month for other services were to receive occaisional free wifi. get a life, its a marketing tool to produce loyalty or make the services more attractive I think they are missing the point, and will alienate cablsvision customers. |

| said by rhard49 :You'd be ticked if customers who pay them 130-140 a month for other services were to receive occaisional free wifi. Dont be ridiculous.. If you want the perks that go with the service, then get the damn service.. That would be like Verizon Wireless giving me free text messaging on my Sprint phone just because I had a Verizon landline.
It already makes the services more attractive by encouraging customers to sign up for all of their products.. Why should they reward you because you took your Internet business to their competition? Loyalty is when a customer is signed up for all of their services, and they reward those customers with things like this and other perks such as free movie tickets, etc.
Believe me -- if a FIOS customer was able to get free wi-fi from Cablevision just because they also subscribed to Cablevision's TV service, that FIOS customer has no incentive whatsoever to jump back to OOL for their Internet.
You say it will alienate customers? Yes, you are exactly right -- I would be alienated if I, as a paying Internet customer, got the same free wi-fi service as a non-paying FIOS customer (or customer of any other ISP for that matter)

The benefit of the reliability you experience with FIOS obviously outweighs the benefit of having free wi-fi.. I just dont understand why you are surprised that as a non-Internet customer of theirs, you think they should be providing wi-fi access just because you pay them a lot of money for your TV service. |

| reply to rhard49 Cablevision's WiFi is being launched first in Nassau County then everywhere else in the next few months. It will be available to all Optimum Online(OOL) customers for free. All you will need is your Optimum Online screenname and password to log in wherever it's available. It's an extension of home services. Think about it. If you have a Wifi capable phone, laptop or PDA, Cablevision WiFi means much needed competition against Verizon and Sprint with their high web service fees. It's just another win for consumers the way VOIP drastically lowered home phone rates. Yeah, of course it helps keep old customers and gain new customers to OOL but it proves competition is good for all of us. |
