| Hughesnet Unannounced Price Increase
Has anyone else noticed their Hughesnet monthly fee has unexpectedly increased by $15 this month (or was it last month)?
What cost me $179/month now is being billed at $194/month.
It's time to get serious about replacing Hughesnet, IMHO. -- Hughesnet | small biz | .98 | 2 watt | 99 West | 1370 MHZ | Signal 81-85 WinXP SP2 | Intel 2.66 GHZ Core 2 Duo |

| Can they charge more for less and expect to keep anyone? Once again, not a well thought out business model. It's a shame. Back in the day, as bad as they were, they were still decent. Seems that the last couple of years have been pretty rough on their client base. |

Can they charge more for less and expect to keep anyone? Sure they can. When you have a virtual monopoly on a product people want (internet connectivity faster than dial up in a rural area), you can charge pretty much anything you want and provide pretty much whatever service level you want. Actually it's a pretty good business model.

Since its not across the board, wondering if it's business plans only?

Actually it's a pretty good business model. WVBill It really is a good business model - or is it? ...even with 3 competitors going after the 7 million or so who still don't have "higher speed" internet. All three have awful reputations...so I question whether all three of them can get even 1 million to come aboard. The investors in some of these companies have been put under the ether that all those new customers are out there lining up to get satellite internet - but are they? -- 1.2M Dish |4 watt|iDirect|||Qwest DSL|7168 / 896 Kbps |

| reply to JulioF This is what's on the Hughes site at the moment.

How up-to-date it is is anyone's guess. I'm on Pro, and there's no increase. I note that the speeds were raised for Home/Pro. When that happened, I have no idea. I don't check the page very often. |

| reply to JulioF So I now see that the increase is due to inclusion of sales tax, which was not being charged previously.

| reply to JulioF Hi, I just Googled about this topic and this forum came up. I have paid $179.99 every month for 10 months. This month was $193.67. I called, and 29 minutes later, all I could find out from the supervisor was that it "must be taxes" and if I want to know anything else I have to ask my state about the taxes they impose. Nice. |

| Because it is easier to blame Hughes for the taxes than to hold their elected idiots accountable.
