@comcast.net

Moving dont want to lose Comcast Internet???

I assume
this would be a networking question.
I live in a city and I am moving out in the country. Comcast High Speed Internet does not go where i am moving to but it is available 1 mile behind me on the next road.
My question is my buddy lives on that road that has comcast hsi on it and I was wondering if I can transfer my account to his house and some how Bounce the signal to me a mile away, using whatever technology is out there for me cheaply. I will not be stealing his signal, I will have my own account.

1: Can it be done ?
2: What do I need to do it ( RF, WiFi, Pringles can, or what ) ?

Thanks

Not that Comcast is unappreciative of the vote of confidence, but there may be an easier way to accomplish whatever it is you're trying to accomplish here. So what's the ultimate goal here? Why is it important to maintain a connection through Comcast?

Have you asked them if they would run lines to your new house?

Talk to your town government/selectmen. Infrastructure extensions are probably specified in your franchise agreement, in some form.

Its highly doubtful comcast will run a mile of plant for someone without handing them a tens of thousands of dollars bill for the feeder/actives/labor involved. You could try a good yagi antenna and as powerful an amplifier as you can possibly get to connect via 802.11g/h but that would depend on the terrain.

I would start out by making sure that you can have antenna's on both houses, then making sure you have line of sight. If you do not, you can scratch this idea.

If you do, then I would start at »www.hyperlinktech.com They have amplifiers, antennas, cable... Make sure you get a router that has detachable antennas, and a wireless card for the computer that has an antenna port, or a wireless radio that you could plug into a switch.

If you want a more "professional" setup, you could go with the Motorola Canopy systems, a bit costly, but they are out of the 2.4GHz and will be more stable. »www.motorola.com/business/v/inde···b00aRCRD

i think FCC laws prevent anyone from saying you cant have an antenna on your roof. unless those laws only cover the ones for TV reception.

Or you can see if you have at&t U-Verse there and try that internet and see if it suits you.

If it is too rural for even Comcast, AT&T Uverse is highly unlikely.

This question is better suited for the Wireless Networking forum, you should ask a mod to move it there.

Would you like to have your topic moved to the wireless forum?

With regard to getting Comcast to wire to you, they will do this but they generally want to charge the thousands of dollars that it costs for them to run the wire, unless they're hooking up a community with many potential users.
