Never having to hear a vacuum again is priceless. I let run after I leave for the day a few times a week. |

| reply to mbittard If you want a cheap no-frills vacuum, I have the older version of this Hoover and I like it a lot: »www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/sto···00597286
I've had it about a year and just now need to replace the filter. It's not great on hard floors or rugs, but for carpet, it's perfect. Can't beat $120.
Edit: I forgot to mention I bought it because of a review I read in Consumer Reports, you might want to look it up on their website if you have a subscription. |

| reply to mbittard We installed a central vac system about 10 years ago.
Central vacs have a lot more suction and airflow so they do a much better job of cleaning carpets and bare floors. It does an excellent job of picking up pet hair. And since the central vac exhausts outdoors, you don't get that nasty 'just vacuumed' smell when your done vacuuming.

| reply to ArthurS Agreed. I have the Dyson Animal for 2+ years now and its been great. You can actually see it sucking up the dust bunnies from under furniture from 6" away. The new "Ball" one looks even better than the older models. -- Team Helix- Folding@Home and Rosetta@Home |

| reply to mbittard I've had my DirtDevil for 10 years now with no issues. Then when I got married my wife had one too. Looks a little older than mine and it still works great. I like mine a little more because it has swivel wheels in the back and it came with the little corded hand vac for the stairs or car. -- 2nd Ammendment: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. |

| reply to mbittard Eureka Boss upright - about $150
It seriously kicks butt and was awarded a number of awards from Consumer Reports. In fact, I think it outranked the Dysons for suction power.

| reply to mbittard You'll have to wait until I get home for the model but when my roommate with the vacuum left a couple of years ago a purchased a dirt devil for about $100 from walmart. its a horrible lime green but it does a great job on the floors and I haven't even had to replace the belt after two years of heavy use by 4 bachelors. |

| reply to ArthurS I also have a Dyson. Will never buy another brand. I've had / used Oreck, Kirby, Electrolux, Hoover and Eureka. Dyson is by far the best. -- Black is the absence of light, but white is the absence of memory, the color of can't remember.

Two friends bought them after trying mine. |

| reply to mbittard One other thing I love about Dyson is it's easy to maintain. Easy to empty the bin. If something gets clogged in the vacuum it has easy to remove places to access all of the piping leading to the bin. -- Black is the absence of light, but white is the absence of memory, the color of can't remember.

| Quite true, Consumer Reports doesn't. But it does give it a BEST BUY "rating" but they don't allow retailers or sellers to directly say that Consumer Reports gave them that rating. Only something to the effect of " Leading Consumer Magazine rated, so and so best buy"
Though I heard in the past Consumer's Digest gives Best Buy medallions to those who ahem, pay nicely. |
