| resolution on DSL sync issue - sorta
parabolic sitting 52' up | outdoor enclosure | innards - cleaner than before! |
Hi,
Once again, hats off to TSI. Yes, we had some bumps but in the end, with their help, my DSL is working again.
So what happened? It's hard to say but I think I can piece it somewhat together. The issue seems to be around multiple problems.
DSL Background
I have two phone lines with DSL on them. These two phone lines are not at my residence.
For those interested, I'm attaching photos of my DSL setup. In short, in order for me to get high-speed where I live, I need to backhaul the connection to my home across a 5.8GHz link.
This adds a wee bit of complication to the matter.
Line Stats not for my line
Bell made an error when they initially set up my Line Stats. This error wasn't discovered until I lost DSL Sync last week. TSI and I figured it out.
I've had DSL on this line for a couple of years.
What Bell did is mapped Line #1's Line Stats to Line #2 as well!
When the Bell technician would look at the ticket, they'd pull the Line Stats and see all is well, so they'd close the ticket. Gack! Never mind that TSI put in the ticket the Line Stats are wrong ... they were ignored or not conveyed to the Bell technician.
The other compounding issue is the Bell tech would phone the DSL number (not the number I gave) and because it's in an outdoor enclosure, no one picks up! hah!
Again, infuriating to me because I'm telling TSI: please have people call my cell or work number, not the DSL number; and the Bell technician not doing so ...
And of course I have to explain my crazy outdoor enclosure thing!
Current Status
After reading here how people get (re)connected on a reduced profile, I specifically requested that my profile be set to my original 5 Mbps speed. It's not. I'm at 3 Mbps. heh!
The Line Stats are still wrong.
A quick call to Mr Joshua (TSI) this afternoon got me another TSI ticket to get the above items addressed.

| There are two links on the pole: a 2.4Ghz and a 5.8Ghz.
The 2.4GHz radios are Senaos: 200mW.
The 5.8GHz are SR-5's; 29dBi parabolic dish.
A few months back, the Compact Flash on the far-end (in the picture) took a lightening hit. /bin/bash got corrupted among a few other processes. I got busy with work and didn't get a chance to fix it. I fixed it today so stats are finally up to date:

| reply to pablo2525 Ah, the new profile is in:
SysUpTime: 03:41:53 xDSL linestate down SysUpTime: 03:42:08 xDSL linestate up (downstream: 5056 kbit/s, upstream: 800 kbit/s)
I'll need to confirm Line Stats next.
Edit: we confirmed the Line Stats too; remotely no less. :) Woohoo! |

This is probably the craziest setup I've ever seen. |

| Hi,
The billing address is separate than the service location.
I do have permission from the residence to have the extra lines but since they don't go into their home, there's little impact to them.
Cheers. -- pablo openSUSE 11.0;KDE ISP: TekSavvy DSL; backhauled via a 6KM wireless link |

| 6Km is nothing for a wireless link. I have links better than double that distance with no problems.
Its not that expensive, that kind of hardware is how most WISPs are run these days!
the Ubiquiti SR5 is a 400mw (26dbm) card. the XR5 is a 600mw (28dbm) card. They are both excellent!
pablo Im looking for exactly that enclosure where did you get it????! |

an XR5 card, $110, a MT RB433 Board, $100, outdoor Case, $35, Surge protection and power supply, $40, 26dbi Grid antenna, $55, misc cables, $50.
Times it all by Two...
Internet 15 kilometers into the bush.. Priceless.
(Of course this is an example.. I can think of 10 other ready-to-go products that are just as effective) |

| reply to kamal Sorry for the delay in responding. I was away this weekend.
It ran roughly 2,000 USD for the whole ball of wax. This includes lightening protection, spare gas charges, spare cards, cable, blah blah blah. |

| reply to Inssomniak Hi Insommniak,
I bought my outdoor enclosure from HyperLink Technologies:
Mine is 16"x16"x8" NEMA.
I added the vents because I thought I had an overheating problem. It turns out the WRAP board needed its BIOS flashed.
