Re: [Connectivity] Vista connection problems

You're other boxes are working fine with the modem probably because they're settings are different than your vista machine. Those are probably set on automatically acquire ip and DNS from comcast, and vista might not be. Go to start, Control panel, Click network and internet (make sure on the right you're under control panel home, not classic view), click Network sharing center, click Manage network connections on the left. Right click on Local Area connection, whichever says connected when the modem is plugged in.. and hit properties. On the list that comes up, double click Internet protocol version 4. Check obtain automatically for both boxes, and then click ok until you're out of all the windows. Reset the modem and see if it gets an IP.

PS. In my area, you can get as many IP's from comcast.. you're IP will change whenever the mac address of the device the modem's plugged into changes. I've changed mine like 500 times or more for rapidshare downloading etc. Most routers newer routers or older more advanced ones allow you to set your own mac address from the config pages, really comes in handy.

Spoofing and faking MAC addys that many times.

Is that ethical ?

It's not faking or spoofing a mac... It's the equivalent of moving the modem and plugging it into a different box... an xbox, a different pc... everything you plug it into has a different mac address, and pulls a new IP from comcast. Awhile ago I used to just be able to reset the modem to get a new IP, and i contacted comcast because that stopped working.. that's how I learned about it.

If you are not using randomly created MAC's, then you have my apologies !
