| [speed/latency] Slow evening D/L speeds in Northwest Indiana
I just posted this over in »/forum/vzdirect
============== # Type of modem, version number or firmware version number Actiontec GT704-WG
Broadband Connection
DSL Status: Connected ISP Status: Connected Speed(Down/Up): 3356 / 863 Kbps ISP Protocol: DHCP Username: WAN IP Address: xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
# A description of your problem Painfully slow evening download speeds in Northwest Indiana! This has been going on for months and is getting worse.
Router Watch Router so-7-1-0-0.CORE-RTR1.CHI01.verizon-gni.net was noticed as 'lossy' by tests.
(so-7-1-0-0.CORE-RTR2.CHI01.verizon-gni.net not looking to good either.)
See: »/routerwatch/s···-gni.net
WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT THIS?? PLEASE HELP! ==========
Since this problem seems to be affecting many of us here in the "Region," I'd thought it would be nice to share it here. Perhaps if enough of us jump on this, it will get addressed quickly. |

Yes, I noticed on speed tests that it was like bursty hovering around 500/700 then sometimes shooting up to 1300D/L happens during the evening.
I'm about 70 miles east of you and on previous tests I had noticed the same as you:
so-7-1-0-0.CORE-RTR1.CHI01.verizon-gni.net.
(so-7-1-0-0.CORE-RTR2.CHI01.verizon-gni.net.

 SMOKETEST |
UPDATE:
After a week of song and dance I was contacted by a tech who told me my "line was good." I told him about the congested router. He tried to convince we that my speed tests were inadequate and/or my computer was too old and slow, & other such BS. I kept insisting that their router out of the CO was congested.
Finally he agreed to switch me to another router. That switch just made things worst. He investigated further and informed me that all of the routers in my CO were oversubscribed. He said he the was nothing he could personally do and he had to close my ticket. He said he would notify the appropriate "powers that be" that more routers were needed. He advised me to monitor the situation for one week and open a new ticket of the problem was not resolved. |

 Nightly Congestion | My 3.0Mbps/768Mbps TRUE SPEED | |
Update: Waited a week and . . . guess what?? NO CHANGE!!
And it was kind of weird too. A field tech showed up at my door on Sunday morning at 9:15am (a full week after my trouble ticket was closed) and wanted to get "access to my modem." WTF?? I told him to get lost.
I opened another trouble ticket for ROUND TWO.
I also just ordered Comcast 6.0Mbps/1.0Mbps for the same price. Maybe they can give me what I pay for. |

But seriously, don't you get that the problem has nothing to do with the router in my house? The problem is with the an oversubscribed router in Verizon's network. |

| I agree, but letting this guy mess with my router on Sunday morning doesn't get me any closer to them knowing it either.
What does get their attention is calling the Retention Department and telling them to cancel your service and issue a refund because it SUCKS! |
