| reply to Recon Sniper As far as I can remember, it's the same way you've always done it for the NT family - boot the setup CD ('cept now it's a DVD) and choose formatting at the appropriate time.
What specific difficulties are you having?
Note, I always do a 'custom' install so it's possible you're not seeing the option.
Note also, what you format is a disk partition, not an operating system. |

Assuming one has a Vista Setup DVD. I know I got one with this here Dell Laptop. |

If it is a statement, you got it.
If it is a question, then you need to make the restore CD/DVD first, then use them to restore.
People seems to type OK with letters and numbers and seems to have difficulties in typing punctuations. -- I used to be indecisive, now I am not sure. |

| FWIW, my 1-year old Dell Inspiron laptop came with all the DVDs I need; there are no 'restore' discs to make.
I haven't actually looked at the discs, but they seem to be installation discs rather than restore discs.
The laptop was purchased with Vista Home Premium installed. |

Dave, that is exactly correct...the recover discs for Vista is simply a DVD with Vista on it. At least that is all I have seen so far in about 30 I have worked on..But it is specific to the computer it came on...therefore it activates right away. |
