The iPhone is wonderful but...

I think its safe to say that there isn't one person with an iPhone who isn't experiencing some type of issue. Whether it be apps crashing, the phone restarting, no 3G signal, etc.

My biggest gripe is the keyboard lag. I could be typing out a really long message and the keyboard will lag behind so bad, so my solution is simply to keep typing away. After I stop typing the iphone stops making the key animations and just spits out the text I wrote. Though this is a real pain when you've spelled something wrong.

In the 2.1 Update thats expected this month I'm hoping A. They fix the keyboard and B. They add REAL turn-by-turn GPS.

What fixes/new features are you looking forward to in the 2.1 update?

Apple seems to be getting worse over the past few years.

My phone will continue to type out and magnify the key so it takes an excessive amount of time to type on it.

I'm not having any problems with mine. I did have the keyboard lag, but that seemed to go away after the last updates. I've never had an app crash on me or the phone restart, and no issues with 3G reception. Most places around town I have a full 3G signal, with the exception of in my office which is partially underground and cell phone reception sucks in general in "the dungeon". I've had several different 3G phones with AT&T, and the iPhone 3G is the first 3G phone I've used that hasn't dropped any calls. All the other 3G phones I've used had dropped calls left and right.

that keyboard is such is huge pain to me. As far as Apple slipping the past few years I wouldnt know because I've only been using their products for less then a year.

My first was my 30Gb iPod, then my 3G iPhone, and most recently my iMac.

I definitly could be happier with my iPhone though and the issues people are having, myself included, make iPhone OS 2.0 seem pretty half-baked. Also factor in the issues with MobileMe and it kind of makes Apple look bad.

Though they are a HUGE company and even the smallest of issues are often magnified way out of proportion.

Thats good. Luckily for me as well, I havent had any 3G issues. For me its just some minor software bugs.

I still have the problem where the phone will attempt to make a call, and then immediately (literally immediately) say call failed. This happens about 5 times in a row, and then the phone makes the call.

I also have problems where it says I have internet and good signal, but I cannot get anywhere on the web or make any calls.

Though, I had the exact same problem in the same location with my old RAZR, so I am going to tentatively blame it on AT&T.

hmm, thats interesting. So far AT&T network-wise has been rather good to me. I switched over from Verizon when I got my 3G iphone. I get perfect reception in every place I used to accept one of my friends house where with AT&T I sometimes get no service at all...

Lag when accessing contacts direct from the contacts app (not from the phone app). Very occassional shutdown of Safari.

No app problems. No dropped calls yet. No 3G issues although it could be faster sometimes (I am in a very strong 3G market).

2.0.1 and staying there until 2.1 (assuming it is stable).

I read something awhile ago about how QC at Chinese and Taiwanese factories has been deteriorating rapidly - not just Apple, IOW. And, as more of factories shut down due to tremendous economic stress from all factors of production, I don't see anything improving because it's not as if you can put the bullet back in the gun and start building the products here again. Which, when you think about it, would be the best thing for everyone. But the prices would go up in the short term, for sure, and I don't think China would be so eager to buy our debt in order to finance our own manufacturing. We screwed our own pooch so hard its ass is ragged

Haha, this is true. Its very scary for people like me who work in electronic assembly. The thought of losing your job just like that is terrifying. Though I can say first hand that the quality of the products we make here in the states , though maybe a little bit more expensive are MUCH better quality.

As for the iPhone, all we can do is wait for 2.1 to come out and hope it fixes some of these glaring issues!

I had the keyboard lag but like others, the 2.0.2 update fixed it. I have to say I really haven't had the issues others have. 3G works good for me, as does EDGE when I'm out of 3G areas. Phone reception is good and I haven't dropped calls or had calls fail. Been lucky with apps too, in that none have given me any problems to speak of.

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones who's sailing smoothly.

This is interesting. When the 2.0.2 Update came out I heard reports that it did indeed fix the laggy keyboard and it did actually fix mine...for a little bit. Now its back to lagging again but only with text messages. One of my conversations is VERY long so I would guess that could cause some lag though ive started new conversations with other people and even though there was only one or two txt bubbles it would still lag. Strange. I guess all I can do is wait until 2.1 comes out and hope that completely rids the issue.

Guess I'm another lucky one.

the sad part is my 2g iphone was great. None of these problems. Even the auto-brightness worked perfectly. On the 3g, that is almost non-functional and a random one at the store showed the same problem too.

Now with the 3g, i sometimes get the typing lag (but know how to fix it) but often critical things like the contacts list just hang for what seems like an endless 5 seconds when you first select them.. that never happened on 2g as well.

The browser crashes out of MOST sites that I spend any amount of time reading, at least the non-trivial ones. I've disabled topic reading notification and instant message checking HERE for iphone user agents because I think the tiny background work required causes the iphone browser to flake out due to lack of memory..

the local cellphone shop here confirmed all their 3g iphones they sell show 2 bars less signal strength than other 3g phones do..

apple had it right with the 2g iphone and somehow dropped the ball adding 3g. I can't imagine how it slid backward so far just adding a different data layer, but it did..

Very interesting Justin. I had a friend who had the 2G and she never had a single complaint about it. Hopefully 2.1 is the cure all patch, as I've heard Apple is focusing less on adding features (ie Push) and instead focusing on bug fixes. As far as Safari crashing, I have it close out on my alot though I usually have two or more tabs open.

As far as how well this site works I was showing snakeoil the page on my iphone yesterday and today and it was running perfectly fine, even the chat function.

PS Off-topic snakeoil and I work together and know each other outside of work as well...:)

My 3g iphone is giving me such headaches. I had a 16GB touch and a Blackberry Curve, and wanted to consolidate devices so I got the 3g. I have never had to reset a device more than I have had to with this. Email sometimes with the never ending spinning circle, apps just stopping, the ipod feature turning on randomly, slow SMS typing, backups taking 2+ hours, and restores now on 3+ hours.

I REALLY wish I did not give up my Curve at this point. It just worked.

I thought MACs and Iphones just work.

I have an ipod touch and sometimes the keyboard lags.
Also, websites render slower in 2.0.2 compared to 1.1.4.
What the hell happened?
