| Hot deal for existing Rogers Internet customers....
....& Free Wireless N Router!

quote: If your Internet is from Rogers, and you're a current customer - you can save $4.95 per month by eliminating the modem rental fee. Future Shop is currently selling the Rogers Internet Modem for $100 - and after activation, Rogers will credit back the $100 to your account (basically, you pay for the taxes only).
Since you now own the modem, you don't need to pay for the modem rental fees from Rogers. In addition, they're also including a free D-Link Wireless N Router with the Rogers modem.
Basically, you pay $13 for the Rogers Modem, a D-Link Wireless N Router, and get to save $5 each month. The discount works even if you have a bundle savings from Rogers. There's no contract or anything.

| Read through pages and pages and...can't find a really good reason to do this. My SB5100 is rock steady reliable, I can do so many things with it if I choose. And I don't trust Rogers. So. I'll pass. It's probably a good deal, but I grew up with the adage of "if it's too good to be true it probably is". You know? |

| reply to MarkAW Anyone know why rogers wants to get rid of these modems? Is there some flaw in the hardware? Crash often? Are they ipv6 compatable? Maybe rogers might be rolling out DOCSIS 3?
This sounds like a great deal if your renting. Save you up to $60/year. |

| reply to MarkAW I'd like to know if you still get the price credited back if you already own your modem? I'd get it as a spare in case the modem I have now dies. Spare modem for a reserve and a free router to sell - same one I already have. |

Let me play the devils advocate here and ask, would you trust a router from Rogers ? |

| reply to alexpb1 I actually had read several pages of the drivel known as "the link provided" and it sure wasn't clear to me what the nature of the deal really was.
I went to the local FS and got their last one. The sales guy explained the drill: call the number, give them the new modem serial number (its a Scientific Atlanta WebSTAR DPC2100R2) and it is then READY to run. You have to then return your existing modem to a Rogers outlet where the return will trigger the activation of the new modem.
By the time I got home from returning the old modem, the new one was running just fine.
The FS sales guy thought the rebate would be after 3 months, but in fact the telephone rep said she credited my account $113.99 (so I made $1) and my monthly bill will drop by $3.
The FS guy said they had about 30 or so and I have the last one.
The router was just off the shelf Dlink DIR-615
so far, so good. |

| said by Stewy :yes but was it bundled in a plastic wrap with the modem ? No it's not bundled with the modem. They weren't even near each other at the FS here in Moncton. No signs posting the deal or anything. The sales guy I talked to said they have had a few calls about the deal. Lots of modems left on the shelf too. I just called to get the amount credited to my account and wasn't even asked for the serial number - I told her I already own a modem and bought this 1 as a spare. Nothing stopping me from returning it for a refund. -- Intel P4 2.8 800 fsb, Asus P4P800 w/1GB PC3200 DDR RAM, 512 MB GeForce 7600GT, SB Audigy Gamer, DVD-Rom/CD-R Burner & LG Duel layer DVD Burner, 320 & 120 GB Internal & 2x 250 & 3x 500 GB External hard drives & Samsung 226BW 22" LCD Monitor |

| reply to MarkAW I just wasted two hours by going to Yonge and Dundas FS (the "new" one), had to hunt for a sales rep, since they all hide in the corner and talk about their own matters. A female employee was carrying a box and asked if I needed help and still kept going, so I had to run after her while asking about the modem thing - she said they don't have it anymore and are sold out.
So don't waste your time and brain cells.
P.S. My plan was to buy the modem and by doing that eliminate rental fee and possibly upgrade to Lite (currently I am on Ultra-Lite) but I guess it is not happening. I hope I will never have to go to FS anymore. |

| reply to Stewy No, it was not physically attached to the modem... (the modem was advertised on the shelf as $99 Rogers "Grab and Go" or something like that...) as I was indeed grabbing the last one at my local FS, the sales guy was removing the shelf price card since I had taken the last one.
I have not yet fired up the Dlink router, but I will very soon... |

@comcast.net | reply to MarkAW Just wondering if anyone can comment on if it's worth getting this to replace my Motorola SB5100. Is this a better modem?
TIA. |

Okay...the picture that MarkAW posted, there is a number on the box 1-877-236-7208. I just called this number. It's the promotional department at Rogers.
The deal is legit. There is no catch. The modem can be purchased at Best Buy, Future Shop, The Source, etc. It's called a Grab and Go deal. Once the modem is purchased you call Rogers and Rogers will credit your account back $100.00 on the purchase of the modem. However, the free Wireless N Router is exclusive only at Future Shop. If you don't require a wireless modem, you still get the $100.00 credited back to your Rogers bill towards the purchase of the modem. The Grab and Go deal is for new and existing Rogers customer's.
The CSR I spoke to indicated that the deal is an opportunity for all customer's to purchase their modems as opposed to renting the modem, hence, saving on the monthly rental fee. |

Are you indicating that aside from owning your own modem you have an additional new modem which you've not yet activated? |

@rogers.com
| But, you have to give up your own modem (if you own it) which makes me wonder why Rogers is pushing this. Seriously. It's not a cash flow problem on Rogers part. The routers a cheapy. What's the impetus to swap out a working modem for another working modem unless Rogers has a specific issue with the Motorola series. |

| Hot deal for existing Rogers Internet customers....
Just arrived in having been out since 9:30 a.m. this morning travelling between stores.
Future Shop at Yonge/Dundas is completely sold out of the 'Grab and Go' deal, as is Yonge/Eglinton. Both these stores don't know when they will be getting a shipment of them in. The promotion has been running for the past two weeks.
Went to Best Buy at Yonge/Dundas, got the last 'Grab and Go' modem. Best Buy will be ordering more in. The free router, valued at $49.99, is only exclusive to The Future Shop. Not too concerned about not getting the router.
Came home, called Rogers, modem is activated and the $100.00 has been immediately applied to my bill, and no rental fees to appear on my bills. |

I'm also a little skeptical about switching from my Motorola 5100 to this one. Would there be any draw backs? Is it a poor make for a modem? Will it support new technology if Rogers chooses to implement it in the future? I might check around London to see if they have any of these items left in stock if this deal really has no draw backs. |
