IKE looking rather iffy.... Last track MIAMIA is the Bulls eye something they have not had happen since the 1920's (Andrew was so compact it never really hurt m of Miami, but very south areas.

Still close enoughj for so strong a storm... and if Hnnah doesn't get her but in gear will only push it farther south and west

Emergency management is meeting tomorrow, my guess it tourists will be thrown out as of Sat morning, making for an early end to Women's Week.

Especially will an east approching storm, evacuating the Keys means moving towards (right at it) and then finding somplace safer.

Keeping a close eye on Ike here for two reasons. Gotta get the house shuttered up if she is going to be an issue in South Broward, plus, the current track put Everglades NP on the southwest side of the storm. Will have to be down there, probably Sunday, finishing up all the lock down.

I hope what Kevin Martin posted on the weather forum is true. Take it south down through Cuba.

Be careful it doesn't look good to for those south of here.

Not to dis the NHC but these folks at the next desk over are usually quite accurite at forcasting these events once they come closer to the US.

If it keeps it current characteristics, looks like it could be another RITA... feeding off the Gulf stream, and following the loop curent into the Gulf passing us just to the south.

The northern hook, has been marching steadily westward and now center trak is out over the Marcasas. That last do you see is not Key West, we are the last large one.

Danger could be goes far enough south, but N of Cuba rather than plowing into Cuban Mts... it ricochets off at the last min.

Not quite sure I want to say Phewww yet, but this charactewristic keeps up, KW will be pretty safe, but for maybe Cat 1 winds... That last dot out there is NOT KW that is Ft Jeff/Dry Tortugas... 60 mi west, KW is the west end of the big blob.

The one worry is Ike doesn't just plow into N Central Cuba but richochettes off (As Georges did in 98) .. but keeps continually shifting west even that might not be that bad. (48 hours ago bulls eye was Miami)

I would suspect with the the continualy western movement of the hook, final would be more toward TX, but at the moment not looking real good for NOLA again

This continues another 12 hours I would not be surprised they don't lift the mandatory res evac schecduled for late Sun/Mon, unless it really intensifies again. They have already allowed Womens Week events to complete and have them leave Sun when most already had scheduled flights out, rather than orig Sat.

i am a coule hundred miles inland up the MS river and we just got hammered by Gustav. the first 2 days were just a steady rain and brisk winds, but Wednesday night the last band went thru and flooded us. we got between 6 and 12 inches of rain in under 3 hours, after gettign about the same amount the previous 90 hours. the city pumps could not keep up and over 1000 structures went under water. water depth varied from 2" to 4 FEET inside structures! spent the last 2 days cleaning up the office, the water was between 3" adn 10" inside depending on which part of the building. my house stayed just out of the water, but my workshop got about 4" in it.

aat work it took out 2 large UPS, our Novell Server that had been up and online for almost 2000 straight days (that mad me mad worse than anything i wanted to see it hit the 6 years uptime mark!), and a bunch of carpet.

now looks like Ike will track back thru here next weekend.

for all you coastal folk, be safe !

Hey The Keys questionable enough being 5-10 ft ABOVE sea level and just ONE way out often into a storm (east approch) like IKE.... I lived in soup bowl 15 ft BELOW sea level like NOLA wth MANY routes OUT I would NEVER stay there.

Now looks NOLA off the hook but Hello again Galveston/Huston RITA rerun.

EDIT: Actually 5am just came public... maybe actually more San Pardre/Brownville/Corpus Cristi

And you know I don't mean to gloat (because we were a scary Cat 4 bulls eye that had friends who never had thinking of leaving were getting ready to)
Up to Cat 3 is one thing 4 and 5 is a whole other story.

But as far as its going west to be away I doubt we will even see a significant breeze or surf in KW.

I may get electricity back in 14-21 days. Baton Rouge took a beating from this storm. It seems like they had everything ready for New Orleans because everyone was watching it and forgot about the rest of the state. Oh well nothing like a cold shower in the morning to get you going.
Put a couple of crappy pics up in this thread »Gustav .

Tank ya probably need one. I am starting to get tired and cranky. I am also covered in tree sap. My mission today is to find someone with a washer and dryer. I got pulled over last night for breaking curfew. I had gone to a friends house to watch some football and grill. Luckily he just told me to get my ass home and let me go.

A rather breezy night in Key West, I'd guess 20+ knot gusts it will be much worse tomorrow..

But so far still clear skies, and they lifted the manditory evacuation at noon.

Still under a tropical warning.
