Most likely people who don't know how to shoot with fast primes. I've been using my 35L on my 1d3 without any problems. Hasn't missed the focus once yet...literally.
I believe those complaining were using the 1Ds3. I guess we'll see soon enough why they replaced it, assuming this is true. I'd put money on that! I watched with much amusement as a fellow Pentaxian bought no fewer than 5 different M 50 f1.4 or M 50 1.7's because they 'thought' the lenses were faulty. In the end he stopped buying them and simply said he ahd a good one but, later revealed that 'maybe' the focus issues were his own.
