how can i diagnose my levels on the cable modem. when i enter 192.168.100.1 in my browser i get

Those Modems Are crap You have to call up OOL to get the signals. Getting A Motorola SB5120 or Other SB Shows the signal levels Without Calling. |

This list does seem to be incomplete, though, as I'm sure that the SB5120 and SB5101 will also work with Boost. I also see that they didn't list any Linksys or D-Link models as being either compatible or incompatible. |

I have a DPC2100 and it works great.
You can used docsdiag to see your signals and other modem info. »Optimum Online FAQ »Running DocsDiag to see detailed modem info

With some modems you need to use the cable modem HFC IP, a 10.xxx.xxx.xxx address, and cable modem MAC address. To obtain the HFC IP, you can use a packet sniffer such as wireshark and then follow the directions in this link

You may also be able to run docsdiag via the instructions in the FAQ and obtain the Modem IP

Once you obtain the modem IP use (without the quotes and with the actual values for modem IP and modem MAC)
java -jar docsdiag.jar -cmip "modem IP" -cmmac "modem MAC"
If you are running a firewall you may need to add rules to allow the communications.

after doing the power down and removing the coax. then reconnection it for a few seconds i was asble to access the modem info with docsdiag and got this

removed the final line with my HFC MAC
are these levels good, the modem is on the far end of the connection after 2 2-way
splitters an amplifier and a couple splices
if it helps i would be able to place the modem on the first splitter before getting to the amplifier |

| Upstream looks better, but now downstream looks like crap. Have you called CV to see what they say about your signals? Something seems wrong that your downstream is so bad with just one splitter - you should not need an amplifier after the first split to get a decent signal.

| i have called cablevision most of the time the customer service reps just have my reboot the boxes and setup a service call.
the wiring to my apt is fubar'd. there are 2 lines coming off the tap across the street, where they go to the demarcation. from there each of the lines is the split with a 2 way splitter. my line travels along the outside of the house where it has 2 splices before entering my apartment. here is where i placed the first splitter so the modem gets the cleanest signal. the other line from the first interior 2 way splitter the enters an amplifier where it is a multi-tap setup and one line goes to the bedroom cable box and the other goes to the living room cable box.
-(removed now)- originally there was a 2way splitter before the line reached the living room cable box, this was the location of the modem from the first diagnostics signal.
from one of my service calls and talking to a tech they mentioned that the tap across the street has to free connections. to me it would be feasible to run the additional lines to the apartments i live in. there are 2 1 bedroom apartments and 2 3 bedroom apartments, having the signal degraded via splitters and splices just makes for to many things to go wrong. cablevision say they need written permission from the owner of the building in case they need to bill. obviously the owner really doesn't care if I or any who lives here, has a decent signal.
i know the signal is pretty bad here because i do have sync issues with my cable box as well, lots of pixelating, dropped audio, garbled audio, black screens with no picture or audio. |

| There is your answer - you need a better signal to get better TV and internet. Nothing you can do to improve the signal coming into your apartment without having cablevision come, or screwing the other apartments.
