| DIR-655/Firmware 1.2 & Firefox 3.0
D-Link DIR-655 A2 using firmware 1.11, after upgrading to 1.2 some of the tabs could not be open (such as advanced, system etc) and my wireless signal to my PS3 went from the high 80% range to the mid 50% range. Went back to 1.11 my signal strength went up and all features could be accessed. Is 1.2 broke or is it on my end. Also, after playing with the 1.11 to 1.20 and back to 1.11 firmware again I upgraded Firefox 2.0 to 3.0. Now I cannot access the Dlink router. I get to the login page enter my password and after 30 seconds a message comes up stating that the network is down click "OK" to try again. Went back to Firefox 2.0 and naturally everything works fine. I did start the browser in safe mode and I could log into the router with no problems. I do have the download helper extension and I did disable it but I could not log in. Why now? Is it D-LINK or Mozilla or a combination of both. |

| reply to boble88 With all these different firmware for DIR-655 I use FF 3.01 with no problems. You have you run FTune for FF on your versions.

| reply to boble88 I will try Ftune after doing an upgrade to 3.0 again. On this matter though, D-Link, Mozilla and other forums have people with similar if not the same issues with the firmware update 1.20 not working and people with Firefox 3.0 not being able to log on to the D-Link router page. |

| reply to boble88 Went back to Firefox 3.0 started it in safe mode and I could log into the Dlink router page. Installed extensions one at a time and found that both the Tor button extension and download helper would not allow me to log in to the router home page. It did not make a difference if one or both were enabled, they were preventing my ability to log on. Is the firmware version 1.20 "fixed" or is it still broken? |

join:2003-02-04 | The Fire Tune add-on is not necessary, I run FireFox 3.0.1 as is and have no issue logging into my DIR-655 and accessing all configuration pages with firmware 1.20. |

| reply to boble88 Tried again. Saved my settings then downloaded firmware 1.20. Installed firmware, router page rebooted itself, installed my backup settings, rebooted and when I access the advanced tab none of the tools such as ports etc etc cannot be used. WTF is it me, the computer, the browser or the firmware. My 655 works no problems with the PS3 communicating with it. |

| reply to eots Like I had said prior everyone is going to have different experiences with FireFox. Out of the box experience is set to the defaults. All the Fire Tune does is make is run to the best performance settings. So if you say your Fire Fox runs okay, how do you know that? You're using the default settings. Any it sounds like when 3.0 or 3.01 was installed you didn't remove 2.0. That's why they you can't update over 2 to 3. I think the scientist over on the Fire Fox side have fix the issue. |

| reply to boble88 Re-flash it back to 1.11, then press in the re-set button for 30 seconds while the power is going through the router. Manually enter your settings back into the router. Don't you prior backups as it will not work right unless you had one for 1.11. You can't use 1.11 with 1.20 backups. |

The fact that it's not causing me any problems means it's working properly for me, and yes I'm using the default settings as there's no need to fix something that's not broken. |

| reply to eots Again I didn't say it was broken, I just like tweak it to the max setting for better performance. I like it to quick loads. Just network pipes and some max settings are changed. Have you use the tool? If you have a fast system and plenty of ram it has a setting and for those who have a slower system. You can always revert back to prior defaults it does have a back restore feature. |

| reply to boble88 I never did a backup for 1.20, my backup settings are the 1.11 firmware. New problem now, after trying 1.2 again and then going back to 1.11 my internet speed has gone from the high teens to 2-8 Mbps (have RCN and it is 20 Mbps down). My cable modem connects to a 4 port switch from there I connect the DIR-655 and my computer connects to that. Remove computer from the DIR and connect to the switch, no speed increase. Remove the DIR and speeds are back up. Just adding the DIR to the mix with nothing attached to it and no wireless signal my speed is cut in half. Went back to default settings and it is still slow. |

| External switch won't can't give you anymore speed than what you have already. It's purpose it to give you additional ports and using packet memory buffers to balance out the speed you already have without lost while managing packet data I/O. Best bet for you is to re-vert back to 1.11 going to take a while to do.
1. press reset while power is on for 30 secs. 2. make sure the pc your using to re-flash is not connected to any switches (so shutdown everything on the network) cable modem also. Should be just the PC and router. Re-flash wait.. Re-set for 30 secs.. Re-Flash wait - Re-set for 30 secs.. Re-flash wait re-set for 30 sec.. Power off and wait for 30 secs.. Power on.. Try it now.. Don't restore prior settings just yet.
Test your modem and router and PC connections see if anything is stable for 30 mins to 1 hr. Save current backup. Then restore from prior backup. If the prior is acting up then you the one you just backup from. |

| If you recently purchased the DIR-655 take it back to the store and exchange it. The problems you're experiencing are unique and not experienced by other DIR-655 owners, so it's more than likely there's a physical problem with the one you have. I'd say at this point you're just banging your head into a brick wall trying to resolve the problems you're having with your router.
If you've had the router more than 30 days then you'll have to RMA it through D-Link for warranty replacement. |

| reply to boble88 I purchased this back in 11/07 when I bought my PS3. I have other issues as of today as well. I can not access the DSL web site using firefox I am here using Netscape. My computer is directly connected to the cable modem no switch or wireless router connected to anything. I have rebooted the cable modem and my pc several times. I do not know if it is the pc or cable modem. I am going to contact RCN in that forum for help. |
