| [XP Pro] Downloading ActiveSync
Is it just me, or is the ActiveSync download site not working??
This page is supposed to download ActiveSync: »www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/···uctID=76
However, if I click the "Accept and Download" button, I get this: »www.microsoft.com/library/errorp···033.mspx

| reply to R2 OK, I simply bypassed MS and downloaded from FileHippo... ___________
Now, the ActiveSync does NOT detect my wife's Treo. She is dumping the Treo and moving to a Blackberry. She needs to sync one last time -- but I cannot get ActiveSync to locate her device. It simply does not find it -- and despite telling it to connect upon insertion into cradle, nothing works... ___________
Thanks, MSeng. I don't know why it did not work. |

| Yeah, I know. The 750 is the most stupid device ever created - a Palm device with a Windows Mobile operating system. ActiveSync does not like to detect it. Many users have the same problem. You have to love the levels of confusion involved in troubleshooting this.
First, apparently there is a default setting "Enable acvanced network functionality" - which means "disable any other possible network functionality". So you have to uncheck this ludicrous default setting. THEN your PC will detect your device. Oh, but the Treo will tell you that your software is out of date -- you need to download ActiveSync 4.1 or greater. Ooops - I have the newest version of ActiveSync, which is 4.5. My math may not be great, but I am pretty sure 4.5 is greater than 4.1. It doesn't matter, the device, even though detected and even though the ActiveSync software is greater than 4.1 -- still does not work.
Now I am a 'computer geek' and have no problem following troubleshooting lists - which I have done. But this is simply stupid. The device should be recognized and the software should work. Whoever thought of combining a Palm device with a Windows OS should be taken out back and shot!! |

| The treo 750 uses windows CE so the ActiveSync should work. I don't have the HW or the SW to look into. I vaguely remember there is a settings for ActiveSync about interface. USB or COM. May look into that. My 0.02.
A bad port/cord maybe. -- I used to be indecisive, now I am not sure. |

| Follow up: after mucking around for awhile I got it to sync to my desktop box - but not my laptop. USB was selected always - it just did not want to work. Hopefully this will not be an issue anymore - my wife is using a Blackberry now and has given up on Palm.
Sadly I feel this is the end of any era! My wife and I have used Palm devices since they first came out (Palm Pilot 5000). But it looks like Palm is going the way of Borland...
Thank you both for your help. (Posted with Google Chrome!) |

| Sorry - I did not mean to imply that. I think ActiveSync was responsible.
However, I was extrapolating to the bigger picture. The fact that the Treo 750 came with Windows Mobile instead of the Palm OS was not a good sign! My wife traded in a dysfunctional Treo 650 to get the 750 - which is now also dysfunctional. She only had it for a few months! Many of her friends did similar things. Now all of them have ditched the 750 and have moved to either Blackberries or iPhones. I have previously kept my old Palm devices for many, many years -- now it seems as if they are simply not able to keep up. I don't think I am the only one that sees the era of Palm as ending. Truly I am saddened by it - I think the Palm OS is STILL far superior to Windows Mobile. I will never own a Windows Mobile device. |
