Can you pull the router and connect directly to the MODEM?

Run some speed tests at a local UK site.

• Could be the router. What kind is it?

• Put the router back in and run the same local speed test test again.

• Might have to up the RWIN.

Let's see what the local speed tests show.

If needed, I'll give you instructions on tweaking.

www.speedtester.bt.com 5237Kbps download

www.speednet.net 5135Kbps download

www.thinkbroadband.com 3280.24Kbps download

all three test taking was @ peek time for me so speeds are a little poor

In addition test at the local UK site also.

Download DrTcp

Set Tcp Receive Window to 127800

Set Selective Acks, Path MTU Discovery, Black Hole Detection to Default.

Leave Max Duplicate Acks and TTL Blank

Save/Exit DrTcp

Reboot

Rerun the Tweak Test

Run Two Speed Tests from the two DIFFERENT cities nearest to you that are listed here: Speakeasy POPs

Also, test here »ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/test512

Note your transfer rate after about 30 seconds. Then cancel the download.

Post the URL for the New Tweak Test. For the TWO Speakeasy Tests, Copy and Paste the speed results from those tests and note the speed from the FTP download test.

I don't see anything more in your Tweaks to play with. Maybe a call to your ISP is in order.

Have them check your signals and the line rate settings.

Thanks for the help Irish Shark I have asked my isp to check what you said so will post up when they e-mail me it seems wierd that my speeds are droping so much, any ways I wanted to ask you how you worked the rwin out was that 9X 1420 =12780
if so why the other 0 as it worked out to 12780 ???

Your original RWIN was 65535. I wanted to push it up 2 times that. 65535 is not and even multiple of 1420 (46.5 times 1420)

So double that is about 90. 1420 * 90 = 127800.

Hi just got some feed back from my isp and they have told me that Your connection seems to be performing at a throughput of about 5.5mb ,so thats what they have told me is that what you wanted to no irish ??

my snr is

Noise Margin
24 dB down
10 dB up
Attenuation
39 dB down
36 dB up

Your noise margin on the upload is fair. The others are all looking good.

Now since they said that your line is at 5.5mb, what you are getting for speeds is about all you are going to get.

Then next question is why is it 5.5mb and not 8128kb? Ask them why you are not getting 8128ks.

had word back from isp there said The service is contended at about 50:1 depending on the exchange and time will impact the throughput of your connecting due to other users in your area.

I did not think you would get a decent answer.

There is nothing more that you can do.
