[Vista] Not shutting down

Not sure wtf is going on here.

Everything has worked up to this point, however, when I elect to shutdown my computer, it doesn't actually shut down. Windows seems to shut down, however the machine keeps running.

Nothing in the system logs show anything quirky. Only thing of interest I see is the GP error that has plagued a few people:
"The Group Policy Client service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

Any thoughts?

Can you check here:

Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > performance information and tools > Advanced tools

In the Advanced tools, under "performance issues" is there a link "Programs are causing Windows to shut down slowly"?

If so, what information is given if you click the link to "View details"?

Nothing in there. But a bit ago, it actually shut down. There was a driver issue causing windows to take additional time to start up. Updated that and cleared up that issue. Only error in system health report was my 2nd disabled NIC. Curious to see if problem persists. Will update later tonight if I have issues shutting down before bed.

What do you see to come with that conclusion.

Did the screen go dark?
Did the PSU fan stop?
Did the HD spin down?

What signs do you see to conclude the machine keeps running?

I used to be indecisive, now I am not sure.

Signal drops to the monitors. Other than that. Drives still spin. Fans are still on. Nothing changes physically.

Can you restart the computer in "Safe Mode" and see if you can shut down properly from there?

The problem may be then from a third party software or service that loads at startup.

Can you try a "clean boot" and see if you can then shut down properly - Step 1 in the following MS KB article:

»support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

I got 'er done. Problem was a driver issue for my graphics cards. Updated driver took care of it.
