1 edit | Finally got around to checking my signal levels...
Downstream Channel Downstream Frequency 567000000 Hz Lock Status Locked Modulation 256 QAM Symbol Rate 5.360537 Msym/sec Downstream Power 5.2 dBmV SNR 43.585 dB
Upstream Channel Upstream Frequency 25008000 Hz Lock Status Locked Modulation 16QAM Symbol Rate 2560000 sym/sec Upstream Power 39.7 dBmV Channel ID 2
As far as I can tell from the FAQ, these values are good. The only thing that makes me wonder is that the upstream appears to be DOCSIS 1.1.
Shouldn't a new business install (less than a month old) be using 2.0?

| reply to JTC MOD: Actually, no, this wasn't really meant as a continuation of my first post to the forum, but I can make the two connect.
daveinpoway: I apparently do have a stellar connection and I was very pleased when I took a look last night.
gar187er: Ah, I was not aware that they didn't use DOCSIS 2. With all the talk about DOCSIS 3 and if/when/where it's being rolled out, I was under the impression that Comsys was using it.
For those who care regarding my first post (»[Business] Less than stellar install...), I would like to thank Rob for the executive line TFN. I called them and the next day I received a call from my local office, who after listing to my tale of woe, put a credit on my account which didn't get applied to my first bill (it also showed that I was past due for two months of service. Yet another thing that I was never told about by sales) that I received today.
One call back to my contact had that fixed without any further delays.
With all things considered, overall I'm happy with the service and it looks like I'm going to be a Comcast customer for at least the next two years. -- All hardware sucks, all software sucks, some just suck more than others |

2.0 being used for the upstream. |

That is a straight cut and paste from the status page of the SMC. -- All hardware sucks, all software sucks, some just suck more than others |

I don't know pricing at this time, but wow, it's tempting.
Realistically, I doubt that I would upgrade to it. After all, no one in the house is a big downloader and from what I've seen from work on the fat pipe (I've pulled just over a gig a second before), there are not many sites out there that can saturate a pipe that big.
But for geek cred, it's immeasurable. -- All hardware sucks, all software sucks, some just suck more than others |

| reply to JTC We upgraded our plant to 2.0 three weeks ago, not sure why since we're starting 3.0 soon, but meh.

* DOCSIS 1.0 provides basic broadband Internet connectivity for one or more devices in the home. Among other things, it includes the ability to rate-limit (cap) a particular customer's data rate to a cable operator selected value. * DOCSIS 1.1 provides improved operational flexibility, security, and quality-of-service (QoS) features. * DOCSIS 2.0 includes increased upstream reliability and throughput for symmetric services. * DOCSIS 3.0 provides a number of enhancements, most notably, channel bonding, support for IPv6,and support for IPTV. Channel bonding provides cable operators with a flexible way to significantly increase downstream speeds to a minimum of 160 Mbps, and upstream throughput up to a minimum rate of 120 Mbps to customers.
Benefits
* DOCSIS 1.0 cable modems made the interoperability of cable technology a reality for cable operators and cable subscribers. * DOCSIS 1.0 made the standardization of cable modems possible. As a result, placed downward pressure on cable modem prices causing them to drop from $500 to $50. * DOCSIS 1.1 enables the cable operator to configure guarantees on the data rates and/or the latency of the service. * DOCSIS 2.0 increases upstream throughput to 30 Mbps of capability. * DOCSIS 3.0 will allows cable operators to provide data rates in the hundreds of megabits and potentially gigabits per second.
Services Enabled
* DOCSIS 1.0 provides the cable industry-platform the delivery of high-speed data on cable modems. * DOCSIS 1.1 paves the way for high-quality digital voice, interactive gaming, and commercial service level agreements (SLAs). * DOCSIS 2.0 increases upstream throughput resulting in an increase in the capacity to deliver high-speed data. * DOCSIS 3.0 will enables direct competition with VDSL and FTTx service offerings from the telcos, and will provides a platform for the evolution of the cable video business into IPTV. |
