DIR-655 Logging Connection Info

Hi,
Can I get a log of PCs that connect to the router and the time they connect? Also, does the router log the web sites visited by each IP? As the school year approaches I'm trying to limit access to the internet by my kids and want to be sure the schedule is working. Thanks.

Regards-Michael G.

Well yes and no to your questions. You can block sites you can see who connects to what in the logs, but If you really want to control usage then use the freeware program from Microsoft called Steadystate

With that program you can have it setup like this:

Bob
Mike
Sue
Betty
Jill
Michael
Sally

Each person can have their own account. You control what they can access or what they can't. You can also monitor what sites they visit and you can also block such sites.

tipstir, thanks. I can't find it in the log files to see who connects to what and more importantly when. Any more info is greatly appreciated.

Also when the child logs into their account after steadystate is enable you can set a time limit to how they can be on the PC. I've tested this myself and it really works. Popup comes up and says you have 60 mins before your account is shutdown.

You can also setup what applications they can use nor not. You can also block IE and everything they do or you can make it so that they can't even save their anything on the PC not even to zip drives. I already block myspace, facebook those are the worst one to have running through the router an on your systems. Too much adware, spyware, malware, phish stuff also. It might sound strict but if you want your kids to study and be someone better get them off the PC and get to the books. There is time to play and time to learn. Okay

LAN Spy is another program it's free you can run it in the background and it can tell you who had signed on to the PC or who is on right now. You can be on another PC on your network while you do this. LAN Spy has some tools where you can shutdown that PC or send a message saying what the heck are on the PC, did you finish your homework.
