 Paradise CA - DSL Outage Late yesterday... Anyone know why?

Came into town (Paradise, CA) around 4:30pm yesterday, Aug. 21 2008 and Verizon Wireless phone service was completely dead, along with ATT land line and of course my DSL service. Called both Verizon and ATT. The techs stated nothing wrong. Went to grocery store and it was a large town wide problem for most I asked - both land line and wireless. Pretty bad how the techs (I got to a high level) had no record of anything being down. Everything is working this morning. Anyone know what caused the outage? Fire? (again?)
