They just raised the price too...

AT&T High Speed Internet Direct Pro
Up to 50x faster than dial-up with downstream speed up to 3.0 Mbps. Plus, enjoy FREE Wi-Fi access at over 17,000 hot spots, including most Starbucks locations. No voice line or term commitment required!
$40.00

AT&T High Speed Internet Direct Express
Up to 25x faster than dial-up with downstream speed up to 1.5 Mbps. Plus, enjoy FREE Wi-Fi access at over 17,000 hot spots, including most Starbucks locations. No voice line or term commitment required!
$35.00

Yeah ... I don't think $40/month for 3Mbps/512kbps PPPoE is worth it. I can pay DSL-Extreme $25/month + $13 for POTS and have better service. It would be only worth it if I was using T-Mobile VoIP for $10/month.

Didn't they raise prices $5 in February?

What a deal! We'll offer you a higher price then we used to offer, but we won't hit you with an ETF if you leave.

Wow. What a deal, I says!

Do cable companies have contracts? I thought those were limited to the sat-cos

Yes. To get a good price with Time Warner you have to bundle cable and internet and agree to a 15 month price lock with an ETF that is charged if you cancel service or move to an area that lacks service.

Not here in SoCal.
No contract $89/month for the 'all the Best' package for 12 months.

Lets see: DSL-Extreme (AT&T lines)

Vs. AT&T:
$30 for 1500/384kbps
$40 for 3008/512kbps

Of course, AT&T's plans don't require POTS... but they're basically charging you for it anyways.

It's a sound investment in a child's education. Isn't every child worth an extra five dollars -- just $.16 per day -- for AT&T broadband?

that depends on your area and what TWC you deal with. TWC-MidOhio does NOT charge an ETF.

A mere 16 cents a day extra, and this wonderful package can be yours for life! Call now, and don't wait. If lines are busy, please keep trying.

How is high speed INternet 1.5mbs and 3mbs. I had a 5mbs connection in 1997 for $16 a month. I couldn't imgaine using a 1.5mbs connection on a daily basis.
I'm too used to my 50mbs FIOS connection now.

Seems AT&T's new marketing plan is "Make U-Verse look good by making DSL prices high".

So, if at&t DSL can't compete with cable on speed, well... might as well not compete on price, either.

What the hell kinda marketing is that?

Sure, we know they want to push people into U-Verse... but there's a LOT more ppl who are in DSL range then U-Verse range and at&t is throwing them to the (cable) wolves.

I guess they are just going early; since they pretty much intent to (eventually) offer U-Verse everywhere they have DSL.

I just got the newest offer from at&t in the mail today.

$25 a month for DSL 1.5/256... *IF* you bundle it WITH a wireless plan. IE that's the *bundled discount* price. If you don't get a wireless plan, it's $10 higher for all tiers.... IE $35 for 1.5/256. Gimmie a break!
According to the website, you also pay activation on this plan and have to buy the modem (or bring your own.)

It's quite a deal. For them.

I've been using 3Mbps for $25/month on DSL-Extreme for a few years... it has been VERY reliable, and Skype works better on it than 6Mbps cable (which I currently have).

Cable =/= "TV".

That said, no cable company has a contract that I know of. Time Warner has NO contract for their internet, at least not out here in California. Same goes for Cox.

Didn't dry loop used to be only $5 more than linehare? (I'd swear at the time elite was listed as $39.99 for dry loop and I was considering adding a 2nd Eite connection dry on my 2nd pair.)

Not Insight.
With Insight Columbus you pay at least $8 more for RR if you don't have at least Classic tier cable (used to be $10 more, they gave a $10 bundle discount which has recently dropped to $8, so RR effectively went up $2). That's $47 plus cable costs for 7/512 or $35 + POTS costs (about $20 here) for 6/768 DSL. At my location, both are stable and I haven't run into any throttling so far.
