| How to make my PC quieter!
I just can't take it anymore. During the hot summer months and even during the winter it seems my cpu fan just goes crazy.
I don't know much about the rpm but 5037 does seem high. I believe my temperatures are in the ok range.. This is a stock fan that came with the processor. Here are some specs
Asus P4P800-E Deluxe, p4 3.06E ghz 800 fsb 1mb cache, 1024mb DDR Corsair pc3200 ram, ATI 9800 pro 256mb, western digital 120 gb 7200 rpm. XP Pro Should I invest in a better CPU fan?? If some which ones would you recommend? Any advice is appreciated. -- Mets, Cowboys, Devils |

The first question I want to know the answer to is - do you need all that speed? If you play computer games - sure, but I've found as I no longer play games - I can do with a slower system.
I built my entire PC (specs a few months back on here) for under $200 and it has a fan on the PSU and one large fan for everything (it makes close to no noise).
You could either invest in a silent PC (Atom + MiniITX board is around $70, add $30 RAM and a $50 case) and keep this one for gaming or whatever else (or sell it on craigslist for $200).
If you want to keep working on this PC - I don't know if it will fit - but the most silent thing I saw is "Thermaltake Big Typhoon" ... used it on my Core2Duo.
It made no noise - but then I realized there are other components that were louder than even the stock fan - thus I was winning almost nothing (except for cooler CPU temps). Often the Power Supply is what makes the most noise.
Figure out what's making the most noise. Also consider putting your PC a little further beneath the desk - helps a lot!

This computer is years old now lol. I use to play pc games but have since went back to console gaming. It is the cpu fan making all of the noise. I recently had to replace my PSU due to adding another harddrive. I plan on getting rid of this machine so I will just deal with it longer -- Mets, Cowboys, Devils |

| reply to MuDvAyNe I had dealt with a noisy pc for years. I have an Msi p4 3.0 and was mainly using as it as a file server and web surfing. My wife bought a 24" Imac and it is dead silent. When I went to replace my pc, I bought a Mac book and set my pc as a file server in the basement. I kept the monitor, keyboard and mouse on my desk and plug it all into my mac book. Best of all when I want, I can set anywhere in the house and have anything I want all on my laptop and a safe backup on the file server. It is also peace of mind to not have to worry about viruses. Just a thought. |
