Re: VOIPo

Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated.

Yes, please note, I specifically mentioned that the reviewers were long-term members of the website. This of course greatly adds to credibility.

There does seem to be another company using a very similar name. See this website:

On that website, that company calls their service "VoIPo Unlimited".

Hope there won't be too much confusion.

Ack! Sorry to further muddle things, but it looks like there are actually three (3) outfits with rather similar names:

Might it be best to modify the name before a big public release? As Harry Potter might say, "spelling" can sure cause problems.

It has already been determined that VOIPo is the real thing ... the product we have all been awaiting. The other two have been outed as being reseller sites for an existing competitor -- ViaTalk. The President of VOIPo (Tim Dick) has posted the revelation that the CEO of VT has already apoplogized for what may well be a copyright infringement ... and enforcement action is under consideration.

In my opinion, the choice of the "similar" names was a conscious decision on someone's part to deceive the public at large.

Interesting situation.

At least in the case of VOIPGO.COM, that website name was apparently registered back in November 2004.

Wonder if any market research was done on the "VOIPo" name.

Of course, professional market research sometimes backfires. Examples include Idearc (Yellow Page publisher), Yutopar (a medicine brand name so bad that the generic name Ritodrine is actually better), Fifth Third Bank (huh?), and so forth. It will be interesting to see how the VOIPo name performs when they are done with beta.
