Re: VOIPo

Interesting situation.

At least in the case of VOIPGO.COM, that website name was apparently registered back in November 2004.

Wonder if any market research was done on the "VOIPo" name.

Of course, professional market research sometimes backfires. Examples include Idearc (Yellow Page publisher), Yutopar (a medicine brand name so bad that the generic name Ritodrine is actually better), Fifth Third Bank (huh?), and so forth. It will be interesting to see how the VOIPo name performs when they are done with beta.

It has already been determined that VOIPo is the real thing ... the product we have all been awaiting. The other two have been outed as being reseller sites for an existing competitor -- ViaTalk. The President of VOIPo (Tim Dick) has posted the revelation that the CEO of VT has already apoplogized for what may well be a copyright infringement ... and enforcement action is under consideration.

In my opinion, the choice of the "similar" names was a conscious decision on someone's part to deceive the public at large.

Would your avatar be...?

Looks like a GI scope to me.

Ack! Sorry to further muddle things, but it looks like there are actually three (3) outfits with rather similar names:

Might it be best to modify the name before a big public release? As Harry Potter might say, "spelling" can sure cause problems.

Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated.

Yes, please note, I specifically mentioned that the reviewers were long-term members of the website. This of course greatly adds to credibility.

There does seem to be another company using a very similar name. See this website:

On that website, that company calls their service "VoIPo Unlimited".

Hope there won't be too much confusion.

Hello Larry.

Every single review of VOIPo was posted by individuals with a strong background in using multiple providers over the last several years --- and each poster has been an alpha and then beta tester for VOIPo for almost two years, during the development period. None of the posters are VOIPo employees. The reason these reviews "suddenly appeared" was a desire on the part of current beta participants to alert others to the upcoming release of the service to the general public.

Unlike some of the "smaller" VoIP providers such as the one you mentioned, VOIPo is backed by a multi-million dollar Web Hosting company --- so financial stability is assured.

To answer your specific questions:

1) VOIPo will be offering Residential and Business accounts.

2) I'm not sure about PAYG plans. But be aware that VOIPo is not planning to be a "cheap" service. The monthly/annual plans will be reasonable --- but they will probably not be as low as some of the current providers that are vying for "cheapskates". Keep in mind that VOIPo will have a built in potential new client base coming from the 1.2 million hosted-website customers of HostGator (VOIPo's parent company).

3) It is my understanding that VOIPo will not allow BYOD. The philosophy is that it is easier to provide support to the masses if the CSRs do not have to deal wih a variety of funky BYOD adapters. VOIPo will be supplying the adapters. Frankly, why would a VoIP provider with grandiose plans of growing to a million customers have to pander to techie BYOD types like me? I still have my providers with whom I tinker and tweak my PAP2T-NA devices. I'll use VOIPo for my primary home phone --- which will satisfy the SAF (Spouse Acceptance Factor).

4) I'm not sure about the "activation fee" but I believe there is a "shipping charge" for the device. There are no addiltional fees of any kind, from what the beta particpants are being told.

5) Beano functions as a nutritional substrate for colonic bacteria, changing the metabolic by-products of bacterial fermentation thereby reducing the production and volume of bowel gas. (As a Gastroenterologist, it is my job to know this.)

Wow. So many good reviews by so many long-term members.

Kind of taken aback at all these reviews in the last 25 days for a pretty new company. Well, that even beats Future-Nine's record!

Curious:

1) Will they be offering only residential service? (Business service would be nice).

2) PAYG plan?

3) If customer already has an ATA, can that be used, or does customer have to use the ATA supplied by the company?

4) How much is activation fee and additional monthly fees?

5) Apologize in advance for saying this, but every time I hear the name, I think of an anti-gas product called Beano. Name is certainly unique.

Good luck to all.
